'Milion, just thinking about the nightmare neighbours you have on one side... I guy this other guy isn't too much of a pain, really? I wish we both had more neighbours who just sat out front  .

Well he's certainly preferable to the bloke i'm joined on to, or the fat cow two doors down on the other side.

Couple of years ago though, it wasn't just stool bloke out in the street, the bad neighbours and fat cow did it too, it was like a daily street party with them all sat out on the pavements day after day, then when i left the house they would stare at me like i shouldn't be there, as i walked between them just to get out of the damn street.

Pop round their back garden and burgle them. That'll learn 'em.

Give over Corazon. Next you will be saying it's ok for people to talk at a bus stop.

Neighbour-bloke is slamming out the music, accompanied by - you know it - "singing". Sure, it's only 18:40... but you must know that you're being a gooseberry fool when you're playing it at high volume?

Oh well, another entry for the "noise log".

It's tough to gain a resolution in these situations, Drum. The Management Company can issue a letter to residents indicating that other residents have complained (and we have done this in the past) but, to be honest, I suspect the kind of people that act unsociably just put the letter straight in the bin. The Council indicate that a record of disturbances have to be kept over a period of time and this is what I'm doing now. They will then write a letter to the resident and, if things continue, attend the propery to listen for themselves and / or install "listening" equipment. But, even then, the endgame is that the Council may - via the court so you can imagine how long that'll take - confiscate their TV and hi-fi. Big deal - I 'm sure that he'd be out buying a replacement the same day.

In an ideal world you'd chat with the neighbour and they'd perhaps slighty alter their behaviour. He is unapproachable, though; a volatile thug.

Unfortunately I guess that, wherever you live, there are always gonna be a certain percentage of brain-deads nearby. If you haven't got anyone like that... count your blessings and enjoy your time whilst it remains like that :-) .

I'm pretty sure you could sue the management company for allowing a tenant to behave anti socially and cause you 'damages'. Have you looked at getting a solicitor involved?

There's surprisingly little that you can do, pjbetman. With the council for my borough, you have to keep a noise log and, if the council agree that the behaviour is unreasonable, they'll write a letter to the person involved. To cut a long story short, eventually they may - after getting the permission of a court - enter the person's property and remove, as an example, their hifi equipment.

I've absolutely no doubt that my neighbour would, even if we ever got to that point, just go out and purchase another hifi the same day.

In an ideal world he'd - unfortunately - get hit by a bus tomorrow.

Edit: I'm 50/50 about the best course of action to take. Following the "official" path, nothing too much is gonna get done. In my position (single, unemployed) I could just turn up my hifi and play it back at them, on a 24/7 basis. They've got kids and a baby, so I suspect it'd inconvenience them. But I think things would escalate quickly on this path.

Edit: Plus, there's no going back... I'd get nowhere on the official route if I had "retaliated" with noise.

How do their poor kids get any sleep or rest if they're rowdy enough to keep you awake in the penthouse?

The number of kids at the place seems to vary; sometimes I think there are three (plus the baby). I think what they guy does is turn his music down if the baby is asleep, but whacks it up to MAX VOLUME if the baby is awake. At weekends, the (young) kids don't seem to go to bed until 11pm or later.
It's amazing though, when the "dad" isn't there - there is still noise from the kids but it's at a "normal", acceptable, reasonable level. When he's there, things just go crazy. I genuinely believe that, by the way he acts, he has some kind of "behavioural" challenge.

Edit: As an example, if one of the kids shouts, he often shouts out at HIGH VOLUME within two seconds of it. He even does this thing where he makes a weird, loud "jumping out on someone" sound; he does this at least three times a day... and always when they're walking down the stairs. It's as if he thinks it's some kind of hilarious joke *every time*.

The sun's come out in my street, which means the usual morons are out in the middle of the cul de sac making as much noise as possible whilst stool bloke looks on from his front drive.

Anyone got some spare novichok for their door handles?

One of my new student neighbours is twitchy as strawberry float. Can’t stand still, jumpy, bobbing around...constantly moving about. He smokes a lot but I can’t tell what it is. Anyone would think the ghost of Muhammad Ali was chasing him round the garden.

Neighbours were out all day and it was unbelievably pleasant.

They've arrived back and it sounds like about a dozen people are now having a party. Nothing "wrong" with that, of course, but, from experience, I just know where this will end up. They're shouting and hollering and it can't be long until the music kicks off.
