Are they council tenants or do they own their place? If they're with the council you could put in a complaint and see what happens from there.

They own the place, some of the street are private rents but not this one.

Another issue of course (were i to do something) is the risk of escalation, i still have to live here and i really don't want to end up on a channel 5 documentary.

Bins were collected today, they're all good normally (even collect bags on the path, unlike some councils); but when I went to grab the bin, turns out some knob has put their rubbish in it because they were too late or whatever...

This is most likely, although our bins are done every two weeks (so general waste today, recycling next week) and I'm not waiting 2 weeks to sort this out...

For the past week-and-a-bit it has been great as neighbour-bloke has been "away" for some reason. Neighbour-woman and the kids have been here but all has been absolutely fine.

Neighbour-bloke arrived back one the scene yesterday night and he's already right back into his "I don't give a gooseberry fool about neighbours and I'll play my music as loud as I want" mode.

I'm quite pleased, though, as I discovered last week that it's not just me over-reacting. A new lady has moved into the flat below neighbour-bloke and she has already mentioned to me that he "shouts and is noisy".

I chuck it in the street and leave it there if someone sticks their gooseberry fool outside my house. It ain't mine and if the council come get it, and check it they may find that it has letters or some gooseberry fool showing who the owner is. Like the last bag that we did it with. That had a rip in it and you could see a letter with the address on it, wasn't even from my street. banana splits.

OR, take it out of the bin, leave it out where the rubbish is normally left. Go on the council website and click on fly tipping. Then say where it is and the council will come and take it.

Start sending messages to the female neighbour telling her that he has been seeing someone else, either a note through the door, an online message or text from fake accounts or numbers. Reference real life situations such as his recent trip away. Study any social media that they have to see if you can pick up any information on them.

In all seriousness I know how Jawa feels, the above was my thought process for quite sometime when I had a noisy neighbour. I never went through with it and eventually whilst I was away on holiday they had a big fall out and the police were called and he hasn’t been back since (nearly a year). He actually seemed a nice guy but I think he was stupid and mentally ill.

Nice going, STAR. I hope that something similar happens with my neighbour-bloke. Right now he's shouting and laughing (not aggressively, just drunkenly) and he's turned the music up. At 1am. I can hear their baby crying and the kids running around; it's pretty unbelievable.

Apparently one of my upstairs neighbors owes some woman money, because she was pounding and kicking at their front and back doors last night, shaking our whole apartment, while yelling loudly. I thought there was someone trying to break in to our place at first, so close did it sound. Can't wait for one of them to OD or something, so they can GTFO and leave us in peace.

Update: Last Sunday night, right as we were going to bed, a loud crash was heard, coming from the offensive apartment right above us. It was loud enough to wake the building. It sounded like a China cabinet had fallen over.

We didn't know what was going on, but the wife heard people fleeing the scene.

Turns out Little Miss Wantshermoney got some of her hood rat buddies together, they smashed the back door in and took his entire stash of money.

He wasn't there to fight them off because he spent the weekend in jail over unpaid fines.

This neighborhood, I tell you. I almost feel bad for mailing him a box of gooseberry fool.

I don't want this to come across as judgemental, it's up to you ultimately, but my 2p is this: what you regularly describe here goes beyond common-or-garden bad parenting and into the realm of abuse. Young kids and a baby shouldn't be regularly witnessing screaming arguments or drunken all-night parties. As a witness to a potentially abusive situation you should seriously consider putting in a tip with social services.

I have read that some councils are pretty hot on anti-social behaviour, STAR, but unfortunately mine isn't. You have to first keep records of the behaviour and its impacts for a period of time - which I am now doing.

Yeah, neighbour-guy isn't exactly a role-model. The lady who has moved in downstairs (two flats beneath me) has mentioned that she may contact social services and she seems to have her head screwed on pretty well; her day-job is being a lawyer.
