I use Reddit myself and I'm on a P2P forum, but I largely don't understand half the stuff on the latter.

Think I'll be making the switch to HSBC. Apparently TSB are on the verge of slashing their interest rate and HSBC are offering £200 to switch (£150 up front, £50 later on).

Have nothing but good things to say about TSB, mind. No hassle with them whatsoever and their service in my branch has been noticeably better than other banks.

They are? Where have you heard this?

The HSBC offer sounds great, unfortunately I moved form them to TSB last year so doubt I could get it.

The only downer is HSBC are strawberry floating shite. Constantly bottom in polls for everything. Of you're online only you'll be okay. But don't expect any help from them.

The credit club is basically you're experian score for free. And loads of other little things. Google it. It's free to join and is really quite helpful

On the money saving expert forums. TSB have been sending out polls to customers, with the questions heavily suggesting an incoming reduction.

You can't blame them really, what with the base Tate's recent drop to 0.25%.

Definitely need to change my ISA. Been meaning to for a while, but just had a letter from NatWest that they're dropping the interest rate on my existing ISA to 0.01%

If TSB get rid of their 5% I'll probably end up moving my bank account as well.

At that point it's not even beating inflation so you're actually losing money.

Does anyone know of any decent ISAs at the moment? I know the type I want I'm not going to get fantastic interest rates but I'm sure I can get better than 0.01%!

The type I want is one where I can basically pay into on a monthly basis (Up to the ISA limits of course) via online banking, and withdraw from with little to no notice.

Most will allow you to do this. Just setup a DD.

Sounds like a Financial Advisor is going to be the way to go, I'll just take all the documentation for the current scheme and the old schemes down and see what they recommend.

Is the transfer generally quick/smooth? Is there much paperwork involved? Or is it just "Sign here and that's that" ?

Depends really. A company scheme will usually send you a transfer value (or send it direct to your IFA) and the forms you need to complete. They will also want the receiving scheme to complete some forms. It's a simple process but can drag on if either scheme or the IFA are slow.

Cheers.

It's not like I'm in a hurry for the transfer to happen at least. If there is any difference between them I doubt a slow process is going to cost me much in the way of lost interest/investment value given how things are at the moment and the relatively low value.

Just read thread to this point. Many years ago (25+) I asked about transferring a personal pension to my (then) employer's scheme. I was told I would have to get an IFA to confirm if that was 'best' for me and it would probably cost me around 10% of the fund value to get that advice.

I declined.

Roll forward 25 years and I now have 9 separate pensions. 1 is that personal pension I stopped paying into in 1990 or whenever, 7 with previous employers again with no recent subs into, plus my current employer pension scheme which is the only one I pay into.

I track the ongoing performance of each of my funds annually when I get the statements through the post. Some have done ok/good but some have done tremendously well (150%+ return against my own personal subscription). I'm quite happy looking back that I didn't merge my plans.

Obviously no one knows how things will pan out in the future but there is something to be said for not putting all your eggs in one basket. IMHO

You might get 1% at places like nationwide. Think its 0.95 for current account holders. They're piss poor mate. Unless you're willing to invest you gonna struggle.

1% is still literally a hundred times better than what I'm getting now.

Why not try a S+S ISA?

What's an S+S ISA? Stocks and Shares? I'd imagine they're fixed term aren't they?

Had a quick look on money saving experts ISA comparison and the best one coming up looks to be a 1% ISA with Paragon Bank, but I've never heard of them before.

Yes, stocks and shares.

I believe they aren't fixed term but the accepted advice is they should be long term savings due to market fluctuations.

S&S ISAs don't technically exist now do they? There's just the one with various limits
