London and the southern lines are getting shiny new trains too, while the rest of the country is burdened with their cast-offs.

Preferential treatment much?

Be thankful you don't live in Northern Ireland dude. One bus every 2 days

Only decent trasnsport is the Belfast to Dublin train and even that only runs every 2 hours.

Dem Class 172's 8-)

On the line I use, they were replacing 20-25 year old Class 150's, so it was hardly a needless update (for us, anyway)

Many northern lines are still utilizing trains that age or older. Why are they not allowed brand new trains? Why must they suffer the castaways of the south, while the south always seems to receive everything new first?

Maybe you just don't complain as much.

Also, I'm hardly South. Midlands supremacy 8-)

You do realise that train companies are all privately operated now right? If you're not getting new trains, it's because your local train company doesn't want the expense...

Meanwhile in Edinburgh, Lothian Buses has rolled out a batch of 15 new buses in September which has free Wi-fi on board. I think we all know who's the winner here.

I remember seeing Mafro complain on Twitter about a bus that didn't have wi-fi. None of my buses have wi-fi :x

Buses.

Mind you, when I lived in Glasgow I used public transport all the time. Few things in life are more enjoyable than getting hammered and standing at the join of a bendy bus, pretending to be a world famous surfer.

Bendy buses and alcohol

Actually, there are lots of things more enjoyable than bendy buses and alcohol. The Glasgow subway and a bottle of poppers during rush hour being one.

The subway and a bottle of poppers

I know the trains operating around Bishop Auckland are still the ancient Pacer units.

Yup. Built from Leyland National parts, no less. Sounds like one, too.

How about your local train company spends some money. You can't blame London. London is getting new stuff as the company that owns the trainlines around London give a gooseberry fool. Also goes for buses. Don't forget we have the Olympics next year and we really need to impress all those tourists with some good public transport.

Actually, I think our rail service is a lot more reliable than most across the water. Whenever I go to England I almost always get a delay when trying to get a connect on the train but here they usually run like clockwork by comparison. Still vastly overpriced though.

At least we don't still have those ancient trains from the seventies any more.
