Falling off your bike after going through all of that must be such a horrible feeling . Did you still have the run to do at that point?

Must be a good feeling anyway, I'd quite like to do one of those.

Yeah, still had the run after that, but thankful by the time I got to transition I was over the worst of it. The fear that went through me as I was falling, since I didn't finish the one last year I really wanted to do this one and just really pissed off at myself for making such a stupid mistake. The steward said I wasn't the first person to do it that morning there, so at least there's that.
Yeah, feels good to have got it done, I'd recommend it if there's one close to you. Manageable distance. I won't do this one again, my start time was 740 which was really impractical since I don't have a car so had to get a hotel. I'd consider one closer to me, but it's quite hilly around here so I'd need to train much more on my bike, that's by far my worst of the three.

Sounds like you got quite lucky. I'd have been very scared of injury, although I suppose unless it was really bad you would expect the adrenaline to carry you through the run.

There is one right on my doorstep. Very tempted.

I literally said to the guy as I got back on my bike "Might as well use this adrenaline for something positive." as I rode off swearing in pain, but yeah, very luck.

I would recommend it, your running will be fine, what you like for cycling and swimming?

I think with a bit of training I could do both pretty well. The main difficulty would be cycling, as I live in a city centre and don't own a bike. Somehow I don't think I could go immediately from training on a stationary gym bike to the real thing in a triathlon!

Well done TNAG! :)

I'm slowly getting back to somewhere I'm happy with. Was out with two foot injuries from New Year until March, did a couple of halves, had my appendix out which was another four weeks without training. Been able to string four weeks of training together now for the first time in 2017. Eight weeks since appendix came out and I still can't jump or run so I'm having to do 50 minute cycle time trials every day at the gym instead :dread: :( - really isn't stimulating but so good to be able to push myself again. We'll get there chaps.

Cheers Mini E, shame to hear things are taking a while but you'll get back to yourself at some point, and it'll feel amazing when you can run again I'm sure.

Ob, I recon as long as you do a decent amount of interval stuff on a stationary bike you should be OK. Sure, actually getting out there is best, but I had minimal road experience before this and found it OK going. I also would do sessions where I would cycle and then run, to get me used to running after a cycle which I think helped a lot. Also I would swim intervals and pretty long sessions to try and condition me so I wouldn't be too knackard after the swim, which I think helped a fair bit too.

That's definitely no growth. Good work TNAG. Surprised that 5kg looks so visually obvious. Love handles look far smaller.

Thanks, yeah it's crazy to think it's just about 5kg difference. Once I've recovered from yesterday I need to think how I'm going to move forwards, but at the moment I'm quite enjoying PPL, but I probably need to eat more if I want to gain muscle a bit quicker. Thinking about doing a half marathon towards the end of the year too, to keep me motivated.

Holy gooseberry fool that's a crazy difference TNAG! Good job!

I badly need to get my diet and regime back on track. Was on holidays the last week and a bit, nothing but beer and junk food. Went to the gym on Friday and was sweating like a hoor after a few minutes.

I was reminded why i never go to the gym on a Monday night last night. There was just so much strawberry floating buffoonery going on it was insane. One dude was lying down on the platform thats normally used for jumping onto, with a dipping belt wrapped around his head like Rambo's bandana, and proceeds to start lifting with his strawberry floating head. I was doing box jumps, 1 min rounds with 20 secs rest, i got to the rest portion and this strawberry floating bitch just walks up and starts using the box, didn't ask "can i work in?" or "are you finished?", just "strawberry float you you stopped using it for 20 seconds its mine now". The same strawberry floatin dumbass almost got whipped by me earlier on as i was using the battle ropes, im in the middle of a set slamming these damn ropes for all i can, and all of a sudden i see this body crawling along the floor about 3 inches away from where i'm slamming these ropes down. Again, she simply couldn't wait for me to finish, or go do a different exercise, so she had to start doing bear crawls or some gooseberry fool down the length of the ropes area while im using it. strawberry floating unbelieveable. Monday is normally my BJJ night but ive lapsed on my fees so said strawberry float it ill just hit the gym instead. Never again.

Damn, thankfully mine isn't that bad on a Monday. Busy, sure, but not really stupid. Also, thanks for your previous message there, forgot to reply.
I'm getting back into it now after a couple of weeks off from the two races I did. Felt strawberry floating amazing once I was done, but must have over done it a little bit because my leg was a tad sore this morning from the sprints. Doing ok now though. I've signed up to a half marathon in October, my first one, so got a new challenge to aim for.

Able to cycle a lot and now able to run a bit 10 weeks after having my appendix out but having so much trouble with my abdominal muscles still. Any form of stretching is still so painful. Tried doing pull-ups and can't even do one because of the pain in my abdomen. Also can't swim yet as the stretching during breast stroke is too painful. Not cool. Not cool.

I had no idea having an appendix out would mess you up for so long. Always thought it was something totally routine like having a tooth out or something.
Hows everyone getting along recently? Seems to have been almost dead in this thread lately. I thought with summer here everyone would getting into summer shape!

Havent been doing much lately myself, i had a nasty kinda heat rash that kept me from training for all of last week. The week before that i was going great, hit the gym 3 times a week and did a 5K road run on the 4th day. Went on a 4 day weekend trip to Paris last Friday so no exercise over the weekend, but plenty of eating cake and beer. Im supposed to go back to BJJ tonight but honestly im kinda flip flopping on that. Sometimes the effort and pain that goes into BJJ just doesnt seem worth it. It's been amazing to train in it but it is crushingly difficult, super painful and fairly expensive to boot. My money situation is a bit strawberry floated at the moment which doesn't help. So im kinda up in the air about that. Part of me wants to just focus on the gym and getting into better shape because i feel like ive plateaued in terms of progress there.

Its not all bad news tho, thanks to facebook memories, it turns out this day 5 years ago was the day i signed up for boxing bootcamp classes. Literally changed my life. I started them overweight and unmotivated, drinking booze 4 or 5 times a week, and hadn't exercised a day since a game of Football in 1998  Went from there to losing 4 stone, taking up a (very brief) stint training MMA and getting bashed, doing TRX training, running 5 & 10k's, and eventually taking up BJJ. If you'd told me all that 5 years ago, i would never have believed you.

First post in almost a year :o My gym has no air con and I didn't realise until today. Every sod in there was completely melting and I had to wipe the bench down after every set :dread:

I got back into it for two weeks after travelling and have already pulled a muscle underneath my rib cage. Woe is me.

Sorry to hear that man :(

Day 66 of my 100 day "get your gooseberry fool together after injuries and appendicitis" challenge. Weighed in a 78.8kg. First time I've been below 79kg since 2010. Progress!

Rib injuries are strawberry floating bullshit. Very common in BJJ, they take ages to heal fully too. Still dealing with my shoulder, its nothing too bad, mild discomfort at most, but irritating nonetheless.
