Good man! Good luck with it :) Hope your knee sorts itself out Brerlappin... Have a few non-weight-bearing days if possible (I know easier said than done...) - I've had to have 6 weeks off training with a couple of foot injuries which is an absolute pain in the arse. I've put on 7kg since just before Christmas - up from 83 to 90kg - being injured sucks balls. Foot seems to be okay as of this Monday and girlfriend has just begun a 12 week placement in Barcelona so I'm using that 12 weeks as a small training macrocycle. Should be able to get back to where I was before Christmas, although I am concerned about watching calorie intake when I have the Reading and Bath halves in March and the Brighton marathon 2nd week in April. My fitness is very much not up to these after six weeks out :fp:

Should pick back up fairly quickly, but yeah, it's annoying the difference a bit of time off makes.

You might not expect it from the self proclaimed king of partying, but Andrew W.K. writes some seriously deep gooseberry fool. The guy is a legend

That is a great article.

Been feeling like that lately, my life's been a bit mad as I was squatting for half a year in Budapest then had to flee to my girlfriend's place last week when I was found out so been feeling a bit rough and disjointed for days. Particularly as work's coming to an end and gooseberry fool as well.

Was in an absolutely dire mood the other day which only exercise managed to break me out from. It's going well too, managed my first week back of 5 day-split lifts this past week and hopefully by the end of May my body will be at least as ripped and as large as it's ever been, if not more. Going for just under 14 stone with an extremely low body fat %. Which means putting on ~7 pounds of lean muscle in 2 and a half months, probably doable but difficult.

Although all of that relies on me not hitting the road again.

How's the bjj going brer, still managing to progress? Managing to strawberry float up more folk now? ;)

What about the rest of you, we still got many active lifters on here?

That was a great read Brer.

I'm still working out about 5/6 days a week at the mo. Got a few 10k trail races in the next few months as well as a sprint triathlon in May. Really tried to get back into weights in Oct and it's going really well, I've never been really strong but I'm just about the strongest I've ever been, and I'm looking a hell of a lot better too. I turn 30 at the end of June which is one thing that's really keeping me going, I just want to have a real good push until then and see what I can do.

I'm much more of a casual lifter these days. I still use a barbell but I haven't gone heavy for years.

I'm currently training to run a half marathon in October. My target is to beat it in under 100 minutes 8-).

Havent trained BJJ for a few weeks, knee is still a bit sore, but hopefully ill be back at it on Monday. At least i hope so, cause this weekend is actually my 1 year anniversary since i started training. Been doing some regular gym stuff the last week or two, just trying to keep to stuff that isn't too impactful on my knee. It just sucks cause i cant do any lifting, im not a big lifter at all, not like you guys, but i had just managed to hit 110kg deadlift when my knee started bothering me. Probably just lifting with totally gooseberry fool form

Are you thinking it was the deadlifts that caused it? I'm starting to get slightly concerned as my right knee's been really hurting the last couple of days, been increasing the volume of squats and deadlifts as well as running so not sure if it's just been too much for it. Started clicking when I was squatting last week, just the pain seems to have been delayed until now.

Good luck with the races and (half) marathons guys, don't think it's something I could ever see myself doing but is pretty cool.

Knee felt a bit better today and coped with high volume light squats but my shoulder feels pretty strawberry floated again so swings and roundabouts.

Had the weirdest guy in today, he blatantly wanted to use the bench when I was on it but wouldn't talk to me; he'd wander round the gym then whenever I got underneath the bar and started pushing weight he'd walk right over to me, bout a quarter metre away, and just stare at my face

Was strawberry floating offputting, had to re-rack the bar at one point cos I started pissing myself from laughing at the ridiculousness of it.

 thankfully going to a gym in the UK most people are too reserved for that.

My first race of the year tomorrow, a 10k trail run, but not too steep. Probably going to be quite wet so should be interesting!

On the lifting issue - I barely exercise at the moment beyond regularly walking the dog. Life's gone a bit mad the last six months, working full time and finishing PhD has left me with no time at all. I'm amazed at how much I miss the gym, so hoping to get back to it by the end of next month when everything is - hopefully - handed in for the thesis.

I've been going swimming at the local pool 4 times a week for about 5 years now and I finally decided to give the swim tracking bands they have a try. It turns out today I did 106 laps of 25m with only 2% rest time which is fine I guess.
I've now decided to do a challenge on the site of the equivalent distance of a swim from wales to Ireland and I've set it so I'm trying to beat the average time for that challenge.
It's 106km in 131 days which is less than 6,000m a week and considering I did 2,650m in just under an hour today I feel is achievable.

I could have chosen an Atlantic crossing but that's over 3k miles so yeah erm, no thanks.

Pretty sure the Universe is conspiring against my running. threw up three times the night before the Reading Half this morning and my stomach has been bloody hurting the entire time. Managed a 2:03 without any dinner or breakfast which, to be honest with, I'm fairly happy with - all things considered.

Turns out the stomach ache may be appendicitis. Balls.

Brerlappin wrote:Jesus hope it insnt appendicitis!! Good luck Mini E. Im just a walking collection of injuries right now. I strawberry floated my big toe up hardcore at BJJ on monday by slamming it into the ground full force. Thought it was broken at first but just badly sprained. Now my groin is sore as strawberry float too. Im not sure if its from something we did in BJJ or if its from the 6K run i did on Sunday (it only got sore yesterday so god knows). I hadnt ran in ages, so my legs were sore as gooseberry fool on Monday but it was jsut the usual muscle soreness, this groin pain is definitely not the usual post-exercise muscle soreness. strawberry floating sucks. I just hope its nothing too serious.

Unfortunately it was. Things got a lot worse through Monday night and had surgery Tuesday. No training for six weeks and had to pull out of Brighton Marathon. Hope your pain is nothing serious mate.

One week done and so far I've managed 11% and 12km of my swimming challenge.
I did 3,950m in 1h20m today so not bad at all.
I should be able to smash the average for the 108km challenge of 133 days.

Over the weekend I decided I'm going to try and not cut corners in the gym. Less machines and more barbell (mostly for rows and shoulder exercises), try and go more in the morning instead of late in the evenings, try to make sure I eat better and all that (I don't eat badly, but could do better) etc.

So obviously this morning I turned off my alarm and slept in instead of going to the gym and I'm having burgers this evening...

Solid stuff.
