I joined a gym about seven weeks ago and realised I had no idea what I was doing when it came it weight training, so I got a personal trainer and six weeks later it's all going well, feeling more confident working out, gaining muscle and eating/sleeping better. My gym has Muay Thai classes that I was to start in six weeks after I've finished with my PT, so for the next six weeks I've ask him to put me on a strength and conditioning training program. Another other advice?

:x Yup, gotta fork over that health food premium. I may have go at making 'em myself seeing as there's no actual cooking involved. (I just hate pitting dates.)

Processed shite can go swing, imo. I don't miss it *at all*. I mean, I do have some once a month as a treat, but for the rest of the month I feel zero sugar/chocolate pangs. Ditto other junk foods.

It's crazy how quickly you forget it isn't it, couldn't believe the state I was in on my first day back at boxing. Moving like bambi on ice.

Well played on that change, considering you were already in shape that's rapid as strawberry float to get more arm and chest definition while losing torso weight.

I'm in decent shape just now, not too far from my best, still hoping it'll be my before shot as once I'm settled in my new role I'll be looking to train heavy as strawberry float over winter and properly max out my genetic potential by about the end of March. Will have to avoid any stupid moves that result in muscle tears again though.

Main problem I'm having now is with muscular imbalances, it's very noticeable at times that my right arm is larger than left which only gets more pronounced as i rely on my right side to get the last couple of reps out.

Would upload an image but cba setting up an imgr account or whatever

It was a good experience, not life changing or anything, and were definitely going to eat cleaner now going forward, now that we know how to meal prep etc, but honestly if i had to live my life without being able to have some cheese, or even bloody tomato sauce (cause its got sugar in it, see), id kill myself.

Did you see any difference in your poops (types of poop and how often) and passing wind? That's one of the biggest draws of going without junk food the vast majority of the time; my stools and poop times are regular and I'm not ruining local air quality every other minute. I feel sorry for people who're "cured" of junk food, though. (The ones who're being honest about it anyway.)

chocolate.

That completely plays havoc with my stomach. So I rarely eat it any more. It's amazing what one piece of chocolate can do when you haven't eaten it in months.

Yeah i found i was going to the toilet less overall. My stomach was a lot less gassy too, like i remember right before we started it, we had a pizza, and i got stomach pain from what i can only assume was trapped wind so bad i was in agony all night with it. But for the whole month my stomach was perfect. Im not sure if its adding dairy back in, (ive had porridge with milk each morning this week) or the stuffed peppers i had last night (they had some cheese and jalapenos in them), but it got really bad again yesterday. So my stomach is definitely unhappy with one of those foods for sure. Probably the jalapenos!!

I hope im never cured of my love of junk food to be honest. I couldnt live my life without cheat meals. Who wants to eat clean forever?? strawberry float that

Maybe it's just a false assumption on my part, but I bet people who just cut it out completely are more likely to go right off the rails when their willpower finally fails.

Hmm. Good luck figuring out what's giving you jip :P Condolences if it's the dairy.

Have you tried those chocolates which are high in cocoa content? Like the 70/85%, etc stuff?

Switching gyms as the opening hours of my current one don't really suit my job (and the computer glitch causing my membership to have extended itself for 12 months for free has fixed itself). Has anyone used Anytime gyms?

As of this morning I have a BMI of 24.9. :toot: In march it was 36...

I know it's not the accurate way to measure especially when I have muscly runners legs with love handles and moobs up top but I like to game ify progress and achievement unlocked!

Mine is 24.7 apparently, just shy of 25 unite :toot:

Finding my weight so much easier to handle now that I'm a bit older as an extreme ectomorph, can stay between13 and 13 and a half stone with relative ease. Which is where i've found my sweet spot to be so that I'm not too light to be weak and look overly skinny but amn't sluggish or feel unhealthy.

I’m down almost 20kg since July after going vegan and learning to track what I eat and following the macrolean training plan. Currently on a mission to get lean before packing on the muscle. My waist is down almost 4 inches and all my clothes just hang off me didn’t realise there was such a difference between XL and L! I’m also in constant fear of my trousers just falling down as I walk to work.

Only doing weights, no cardio and my diet hasn’t got me wanting the odd cheat day etc. I haven’t felt this healthy both mentally and physically since I was in my early 20s.

This fitness lark is pretty fun!

When I used to do MMA there were generally about 15-20 of us in the class, and only one of them was a girl. Generally if we paired up for something we'd rotate every few minutes, and so whether it was sparring or ground work, it'd inevitably be an awkward mismatch of height, weight, and an exercise in trying to stop her massive tits getting in the way of everything. She was genuinely a foot shorter than me and she must've only weighed about 8 stone or something. But yeah, totally get you Brer, couldn't do anything 'properly' for fear of hurting her.

My approach in boxing was to walk up and hit them as hard as possible on their first lesson. If they’re still breathing by the end you have failed as a man and can never enter the gym again.

One thing that's always puzzled me at the gym is that i never see anyone one stretch before or after a work out. At school everyone stretched. When i have my Officer Safety Training at work we do a short jog around the sports hall and then do various stretches before doing the main physical work. Has the advice changed or do people just genuinely not bother with stretching at the gym?

I've always had issues with shin splints whenever I've not stretched and had to run so for me it's very important.

I'll always stretch before cardio of any sort.

With weightlifting, warm-up sets do the job of getting your muscles prepared and in fact I believe stretching is, if anything, counterproductive.

I'm just too busy at the moment, and have been for nearly a year. Up at 7.30 to get ready, out for 8.20, back in at 8.30pm at which point I usually have marking or preparation for a future class, or revision of my thesis, or writing an article or book review or whatever.

It's killing me, I really miss regular gym work and I really really miss the weight room. :(

Semester ends this week though and my viva is coming up so all going well I'mma have a fuckton of free time starting in December. :datass:

Things are going well for me at the moment. Had some knee problems after my last half-marathon so I've barely been able to run but other training going well. Just finishing week 6 of my current 10 week programme. Been up at 04:10 five times a week for the past six weeks to get the gym in before work. Have started doing some evening sessions too. One of our staff members is a former Commonwealth Games medallist in Judo and he's putting a more resistance-based training programme together for me.

The past couple of weeks I've been doing eight or nine sessions per week which is definitely going to lead to overtraining if I'm not careful :dread:. Morning is cardio (stair climb the equivalent of Big Ben at 90 steps per minute and then a 40 minute cycle time-trial or a run), and evening is more resistance. Did a 500 rep challenge last night involving 100 press-ups, 100 leg raises from a pull up position, 100 lunges, 100 curl and press and 100 burpees.

I did not enjoy this. Body mass down to 75kg (still trying to get down slightly more from my original 103.something). When I get closer to 71-72ish, my plan is to maintain that weight or add-on slightly to increase lean muscle mass. Carbohydrate intake has definitely increased since starting two sessions per day for three of my five training days... I feel so much better for it all though. Mood is definitely on the up.

My time line recently had been Cora, brer then mini e - in that I was too busy, then was ill but now it's going well. I wake up early tues and Thurs and go to the gym before work, and go on a Sunday, and run Wednesdays morning's. Looking to start my longer runs on Saturday mornings too this week. I want to end the year running, as it were, ready for the new year and then keep training up until spring when I'll have some races again. Work was really getting in the way but now I go in morning's it feels like I'm more in control of my own life again.

Cheers Brer. It's been over a year since I regularly gunned it and I've flatbed up something rotten. Sit in and about the 14.5-15 stone mark(which is well, well underneath the 19.5 stone I topped out at in 2013) but feel unfit and minging, so I'm hoping that once the uni stuff is out of the way and my working hours change away from back shifts and twelve hour shifts that my diet will improve again and I can get into a regular rhythm of exercise. :D
