1st gym session back since being ill over the weekend, was ok but had to ease myself back essentially.

Thought i'd post my routine in here to see if there is anything missing, my one concern is lack of shoulders. This is based off the one Rocsteady posted a few weeks ago, switched to an upper and lower split, cardio is generally sprints on bike or cross trainer, RP is rest pause:

Upper:
Bench - RP
Chins - RP
Lat raises 3x15
Bicep curls - 3x12
Tricep extension 3x15

Lower:
Front squat - RP
Leg press - 3x15
Cardio

Upper:
Dips 3x15
Pulls - RP
DB row 3x15
Hammer curls 3x12
Tricep push downs 3x15

Lower:
Deadlift 1x6 or RP
Squat 3x6
Cardio

The classic to add some more muscle, but keep fat down.

Considering my shoulder is still shattered nearly two months later from that program I couldn't in all good conscience recommend adding on additional shoulder exercises :slol:

The original program did recommend doing shrugs but I thought that would've been too much. And was written by someone on roids so I adopted it accordingly. Your shoulders will become mammoth on that routine, trust.

babby question:

On your routine there you have reps x sets and rest pause - for the rp how many reps are you doing? One and rest or going to failure?

For rest pause I do a set of 8-12, then basically do sets of 3 until I reach 30 reps in total (including the original 8-12). Normally 40-60 seconds rest in between each set of 3.

But I've seen other RP sets where you do the 1st set as normal, then to failure, wait a min then to failure again.

Ah ok that makes sense to me, Ive worked to a total amount with the least sets possible before. That seems reasonable, cheers.

Dropping weights to get attention is bad enough, there were two guys dropping dumbbells from waist height after doing shrugs with 25kg which isn't a huge amount (the guys were pretty big) onto a non-padded floor which is basically wood with carpet on it :fp: Absolute twats.

New one rep max of 170kg for deadlift after doing a ton of various before it, pretty pleased, end up only doing deadlifts like evey second week :fp: but have upped it recently.

Dragged along to RPM class after doing gym, was pretty good and would go again. Decent alternative to the treadmill HIIT borefest.

Good job. Many very strong deadlifters only do it once every two weeks.

Cheers, interesting. Suppose these guys will need all the recovery they can.

Think will still try to do it once a week just now anyway as hit a plateau for ages by not fully going for it when can lift more than I think/am brave enough to try, same with squats.

It's usually because deadlift is so taxing on the CNS compared to the other lifts it's sometimes nice to let your CNS recover for an extra week. I think I'm gonna take a deload week next week and see how I get on depending what I manage to hit in the gym tomorrow and Sunday.

Week 6 of the year done for me, and I'm very happy. Running is getting easier after a change in my hill work effected me massively a few weeks ago, lifts are steadily going up (but slowly), and I'm loosing fat a nice pace despite eating quite a lot evenings and weekends (but being sensible during the days of the work week). 5 week till my first race! Also problems with my back are pretty much gone after I decided to adopt the method of "try to suck your arsecheeks up through your anus" during every single exercise to keep my lower back strong and stable. Worked a treat.

Just scraped a new personal best at Parkrun this morning with a time of 24m 19s. I then went straight to the gym to do wall climbing and had to stop after three times because I was so exhausted.

It felt so good getting into the sauna afterwards. :datass:

Bought myself a dipping belt, because there's nothing more alpha than doing an exercise which most people can't do with their bodyweight with weights hanging off your dick. 20kg dips, 5kg pullups. Feels good man.

Has anyone on here got experience of coming back from a torn muscle?

My torn shoulder muscle's put me out the gym for two months now, it still hurts but nowhere near as bad - come march I think I'll be ready to give some weights a shot again. Any tips from folk? Obviously I'm not going to just jump on the bench and crack out 100kgs but I'm wondering if there might be any best way about it, or whether just to simply be super careful with building the weight back up.
