I was told to take six weeks out after surgery. It's been 11 days... when do we think I can get back on the bike in the gym? - serious withdrawal symptoms...
So I've started doing StrongLift again... can someone help me with the bent over barbell row? I think my technique is okay but I do feel my lower back a bit afterwards - normal?
doing the bent row properly will give your lower back a work out isometrically but yeah if its sore and affecting your SQ & DL then switch to chest supported or cable rows
Finally finished my first sprint triathlon yesterday, after failing one in September. Completed it in 1:46, which I'm pretty happy with. Fell off my bike on one of the last corners, it was very sharp and I didn't realise it was a turn until quite late. The ground was wet and my breaks locked, I felt myself begin to fall so tired to readjust my weight but over compensated too much so fell the other way, but at least I was able to leap from my bike and roll. Hurt like hell, but I've only got a grazed elbow and got sore shoulder. Might do another at some point.
Yeah, still had the run after that, but thankful by the time I got to transition I was over the worst of it. The fear that went through me as I was falling, since I didn't finish the one last year I really wanted to do this one and just really pissed off at myself for making such a stupid mistake. The steward said I wasn't the first person to do it that morning there, so at least there's that. Yeah, feels good to have got it done, I'd recommend it if there's one close to you. Manageable distance. I won't do this one again, my start time was 740 which was really impractical since I don't have a car so had to get a hotel. I'd consider one closer to me, but it's quite hilly around here so I'd need to train much more on my bike, that's by far my worst of the three.
Sounds like you got quite lucky. I'd have been very scared of injury, although I suppose unless it was really bad you would expect the adrenaline to carry you through the run.
I literally said to the guy as I got back on my bike "Might as well use this adrenaline for something positive." as I rode off swearing in pain, but yeah, very luck.
I would recommend it, your running will be fine, what you like for cycling and swimming?
I think with a bit of training I could do both pretty well. The main difficulty would be cycling, as I live in a city centre and don't own a bike. Somehow I don't think I could go immediately from training on a stationary gym bike to the real thing in a triathlon!
I'm slowly getting back to somewhere I'm happy with. Was out with two foot injuries from New Year until March, did a couple of halves, had my appendix out which was another four weeks without training. Been able to string four weeks of training together now for the first time in 2017. Eight weeks since appendix came out and I still can't jump or run so I'm having to do 50 minute cycle time trials every day at the gym instead - really isn't stimulating but so good to be able to push myself again. We'll get there chaps.
Cheers Mini E, shame to hear things are taking a while but you'll get back to yourself at some point, and it'll feel amazing when you can run again I'm sure.
Ob, I recon as long as you do a decent amount of interval stuff on a stationary bike you should be OK. Sure, actually getting out there is best, but I had minimal road experience before this and found it OK going. I also would do sessions where I would cycle and then run, to get me used to running after a cycle which I think helped a lot. Also I would swim intervals and pretty long sessions to try and condition me so I wouldn't be too knackard after the swim, which I think helped a fair bit too.
