lighten up

This!

There is nothing on the MD that comes even close to Metroid Prime, Wind Waker and Super Mario Sunshine in terms of quality. The most cited game on the MD was a platformer that used game mechanics from 1985, just sped up a bit.

Of course those are far more advanced games technically, but I still personally prefer Sonic 2 over any of them :P I'm a big fan of the 16-bit style of the early 90's anyway so I'm bound to prefer the Mega Drive myself, but naturally others are more tuned in with modern stuff. That's fair enough, gaming is as divisive a medium as any other, so naturally you're going to get people disagreeing over stuff like this.

Also I would argue that the classic Sonics used momentum in a clever, unique way not really seen before at that point. It's something that's been lost in the post-MD games, but the way you had to build up a good speed to get past obstacles was always done quite cleverly I thought. And that's another thing; the physics of the games were pretty advanced and well tuned for the time. I can't imagine many other developers could have nailed them as well as Sega did back then (the key words being "back" and "then").

Maybe I'd been spoiled by having a world map and a choice of which levels I wanted to do in SMB3. That was a big advance in the platformer genre for me, and it felt archaic going back to the old system.

strawberry float off. I'm explaining exactly why I think this is a poor deal. If it doesn't agree with your point of view, then perhaps you could take the time to explain why, instead of wasting your time writing gooseberry fool I'm never going to pay attention to. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen you post anything beyond that.

WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP!
Pointless message alert.

I think there should a dubious post committee like at the FA. Decide whether posts should be added to the post count.

Why do you act like the forum as a heart or a soul? Like it matters when things are in the wrong or right place?

Enjoy the fun of the fair...you daft, aggressive northern, you.

Haha, that was a brilliant system, I know what you mean. I loved it on World and 64 in particular. Sonic always felt a bit more arcade like to me, so I personally don't really miss it there, and given the speedy nature of the games, it could possibly slow them down more than necessary. Plus the games don't have anywhere near as many levels as Mario 3 (even if they are generally considerably longer), skipping certain ones would only make them that much shorter I bet. SMB3 on the other hand is a monster of a game to complete, even if you skip the levels that you can!

I suppose you could always activate the level selects :P Up/down/left/right/A+Start for Sonic 1!

Because unlike some, I actually give a damn about this place. There are sections for a reason. Use them. A lot of time, money and care went into making this place, and Garth and Steve had absolutely no reason to do so other than they cared. The very least we could do for them is use the thing properly.

GRcade is serious business.

I will still have this. I have my Rolo to the Rescue cart ready and waiting.

I think that's really where my problem lies. I hate arcade games. Too short, and too "quick fix" for my liking. Good for a quick blast, but I like something extra from my games. I want to spend time playing through it and enjoying it. I want to be given choices, too. Do I do world 1-3 and visit the Mushroom house after for a power up, or do I skip past it, and go to the castle? It is telling that when I bought Smash Bros Brawl, it was for the Subspace Emissary mode more than anything else, and whenever I fire up an offline multiplayer FPS, I always select Infinite time and no kill limits, and just have a blast for ages.

Regardless MCN, you always manage to turn a topic into one big argument.

Oh and I think you are trolling, your first post was slagging off the MegaDrive saying the SNES owns it blah blah.

If you really cared so much about GRcade, you'd stop it.

Rolo to the Rescue was one of my favourite games on the Mega Drive! It wasn't very popular at all, no one ever mentions it but it's such a great game. Played it again recently on the DS, good memories, still have my cart :)

It's a good thing that this machine exists - I might get one, because I think my Mega Drive is broken.
Oh, and pipe down MCN.

The complete lack of any save system was problematic though. ¬_¬
