This is what I personally really enjoy about Jeff's E3 interview series. He's very disarming and knows what questions to ask that might actually get answers. To be honest I should have posted his Phil Spencer interview as it's more insightful but I love the car crash of the three Stooges.

Makes me wish Jeff did more interviews.

Edit ah here it is anyway

Browsing through the last few pages and this is delicious. I never saw Austin on GB but since he left he's gone on to be the most interesting voice in games journalism and created, IMO, the best gaming podcast over at Waypoint. He is also an actual intellectual with a deep background in academia.

He can certainly be a little full of himself, but he's never not entertaining.

Was it last year or the year before when he asked Spencer and some other goon bluntly what it would take for games to stop launching in an unfinished or broken state? The look on their faces was

And yeah, calling Walker a "faux-intellectual" compass off as pretty ignorant.

I think it's interesting they're willing to talk about how tiring and irritating going to E3 can be.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

His articles can be extremely try hard but I like him on podcasts, he doesn't take himself so seriously.

Agreed. I occasionally pop over to their articles and the vast majority are way too long and rambling. His 'This is America demonstrates why God of War's single cut doesn't work' was actually not a terrible article but remains one of the worst headlines I've seen in a while.

Not sure specifically, but that HAD to have been the MCC year, crazy that they are still promoting work in progress patches for halo.

I have a deep background in academia and he just rubbed me the wrong way while on GB - i haven't listened to waypoint but i'll at least give an episode a try before writing it off. I definitely prefer hearing Jeff talk about the dark underbelly of the industry, weird arcade stuff or taking things/developers/games to task for their bullshit more than a lot of other more sycophantic journalists might. To be fair my only experience of austin was on the GOTY debates where he'd say "huh" in a quizzically patronising way whenever anyone said something he didn't quite agree with, or his over use of the phrase "[game] did/didn't stick the landing" which irked me too.

Sounds like Dan Ryckert is coming back as a guest contributer/part timer.

Sounds like this is the new model in general. Core staff with lots of guests - Jeff Grubb/Danny O Dwyer/the cool people still left at gamespot (tamoor/lucy).

Yeah, this is great news. Combined with the launch of Nextlander, things are potentialy better now than they were before the split.

So excited about all this. I've now got Waypoint+, Nextlanders and GB 2.0 to listen to. A wealth of choice!

Does Jeff Grubb actually do anything other than share controlled leaks from Microsoft?

His inclusion was the least interesting to be sure. He's the modern Pachter: a dude that leaks stuff and makes industry predictions. But I'm interested to see what he brings!
