Anybody had an issues with the Kindle app? I persistently get an error message trying to read the one and only ebook I've downloaded (Necrophenia, by Robert Rankin).

I was getting a similar error with TapaTalk too, whenever I posted in a topic.

Something about the process not responding, usually. For the most part, it's just these two apps too.

Hmm, Did a factory reset on the phone. and restarted from scratch. Kindle seems to be behaving itself these days. Tapatalk (even with the latest update) is still misbehaving. But usably so.

So... what's good? I've discovered that there's an in-progress port of ScummVM, which I'm looking forward to immensely, though it seems to be a fiddly son of a b*tch to get installed. The Android Market is a bit of a mess though, so I'm looking for game/app suggestions.

Just came across a fun little platformer called Replica Island. I'm sure it's of no surprise to the long term Android users compared to me, but still... neat. I wasn't entirely sure you could make a decent platformer on a touch-screen phone.

It was released in April.

HTC are yet to release or even announce a superior phone for the UK market. They have one better phone on sale - HTC Evo 4G, but this is only in North America and it's likely it won't come here because we don't have compatible networks.

HTC Desire is probably one of the best smartphones on the market, full stop.

Wish I held out for one instead of impulse buying my Legend. :fp:

Legend's design and construction is far superior, even if its specs are not.

Will there be any problems with me switching to an Android phone seeing how I am still on a iPhone 35 contract?

Depends who the contract is with. If they have the Desire, you might be able to get an upgrade if you speak to them.

My contract is with O2 and I have another 11 months on the contract. I'm thinking about selling my iPhone 3G and getting the HTC Desire unlocked. Is there specific things I have to phone O2 about? Or can I just chuck my SIM in and enjoy all the features of my iPhone 35 contract?

Just chuck in your sim and it will work

Personally, I'm almost totally sold on Android. I'd just like them to make it easier to install an up to date version of the OS without having to wait on the phone manufacturer to do it for you.

Though obviously that's the phone manufacturers do that.

Someone download this Swiftkey beta http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/14/swif ... ve-text-t/ and give me their impressions. I'd do it myself but I don't have an Android phone. Planning to get one once my contract allows me to upgrade in Jan/Feb. Looking to get a HTC Desire assuming I can get the price down to something I'm willing to pay.

You don't have to wait with a Nexus One 8-) Or you could just root and install an unofficial version.

I could... And might yet, but the only rooting procedure for the galaxy is still a little dangerous, and i dont think it responds well to my current firmware. I just got it and would rather not brick it so soon :-D

The official update is supposed to be next month, but god knows if that includes uk phones or not.

\o/ Angry Birds!

Hopefully this means the floodgates will open soon, and we'll see a lot more iOS games start appearing. At the moment, the state of the Android Marketplace seems to be one of the real reasons you might choose an iOS phone over Android, so anything that addresses that gap is a-OK with me.

My HTC Hero got Android 2.1 (HTC Sense) today 8-) :fp:

Still, it's nice to see some extra sheen on everything. The old version was starting a bit dated.

Which network are you with and is it a branded handset?

Lots of info on when Networks will release 2.1 for Hero here. Mines unbranded and I got it a few weeks back.

On the keyboard front, I just use the numbers style one in portrait for the predictive text, and the full keyboard in landscape or on the Web.

I use the standard Android keyboard, I have no problems with it. I tried Swype, but I didnt get on with it.

Im honestly not sure what keyboard the Galaxy S uses. The advertising bumpf included in the box alluded to them having incorporated swype into the phone, but by default at least, i see no sign of it.
