Woke up this morning and my Nexus 7 wouldn't turn on. Eventually managed to get it to turn on but it just hung at the Google screen. Turned it off again and now it won't turn on at all.
Any ideas?
I'm never buying one of their piece of gooseberry fool devices again.

I strangely had the same issue on my old nexus (I have a nexus 10 now) I just left it over night unplugged and then plugged it in and turned it on and it worked. It was very strange and was fine after. If you do a search online you'll find some posts about similar things .It's actually a good bit of kit but I remember the old os being but thought it was really good after the os updates.

More powerful perhaps (its newer) but not better made.

If you've got the money (£199) I'd go for the Nexus 9.

Nexus devices all seem to disintegrate after a year or two.

Join Lewis are doing the Galaxy Tab 8.1 for £149 which seems pretty good.

My original Nexus 7 is still in one piece.

Is it useable or does it become ridiculously slow no matter how many times you format it?

Anecdotally, both Nexus 7s aren't that great. If they aren't becoming ridiculously slow for no reason, Google are busy releasing firmware updates to ruin them in new and exciting ways.

Tbh I'm kinda glad I held out hearing about terrible performance with nexus devices after upgrades. My iPad 2 is still running fine even though I really dislike the OS, so it's disappointing to hear. I very almost traded it but they moaned about hit and miss home button.

My nexus 7 seemed to drop in performance a lot after updates but my nexus 10 has been constantly brilliant with no slow down or performance loss.I did have the first version of the nexus 7 though so maybe the later version was better .

My Nexus 4 was pretty gooseberry fool on 5.0.1 but 5.1 has had no problems at all. It's like a new phone again.

My Nexus 7 was a strawberry floating brick after the latest full OS update, but a patch does seem to have sorted it out. It's never been as swift as it was though.

Was due an upgrade with ee. Fancied an S6 Edge, they wanted £150 but managed to haggle them down to 9.99 after threatening to move to Virgin. Win.

The phone is lovely. The "edge" bit is little more than a gimmick in functionality but it does make the phone look awesome. Everything else about it is awesome. Had to get it in gold which was my least preferred colour but it looks suprisingly good in the flesh.

Nice and quick too. They seemed to have really toned down all their crap they normally add to Android and what's left it pretty decent.

I've never 'formatted' it, its fine. It's not the Nexus devices at fault because there are bugs in lollipop.

If you apply the latest factory image for your Nexus it speeds it right up. When you update there is loads of rubbish left floating about over time this builds up.

If you do a flash of the latest the device is cleared and and that version applied leaving you with a clean OS.

Versions:

Nexus 7 2013 Wifi = 5.1.1
Nexus 7 2013 LTE = 5.1.0

nexus 7 2012 Wifi = 5.1.1
Nexus 7 2012 LTE = 5.1.0

Don't download Android 5.0.2 on your Nexus 9

Our advice right now is to not update your Nexus 9 to the Android 5.0.2 software as there are some serious issues going on right now.

According to Google's product forums those updating to the latest software are breaking their devices and some slates have managed to become bricked in the process.

One user opened a thread in the Google forum's after bricking the Nexus 9 with responses from the Google's experts suggesting the best way would be to perform a factory reset in recovery mode.

Don't do it

Some are also reporting the update is failing to install with results varying for each user, but most are reporting a simple restart will solve that problem.

We've reached out to Google for some comment on the situation but we haven't had any response just yet.

Until we hear anything we're recommending you just hold fire with the update until all the problems are ironed out.

As for those who don't own a Nexus 9 yet, PC World in the UK just dropped the price to £199. Considering it is still £319 on the Google Play Store that's an impressive price cut and could well be worth picking up.
