I'm pretty tempted to get 2.2 on my Legend, but as it's not officially ported yet I'd lose the slick Sense UI.

I'll think I'll wait for now.

I absolutely love the combination of Android and Htc Sense on my phone. The latter U.I. when combined with 2.1 is an absolute joy. The relatively open nature of Android and the enthusiasm of guys like those at VillainRom ensures that there is a constant source of tweaks and updates (once rooted of course). I had an iPhone and still have a touch, but neither offers what my htc phone does in terms of functionality. The whole widgets concept is bloody brilliant and makes the iPhone U.I. look really outmoded. The iPhone still has the lead on the media front, is more suited to techiphobes, and has the better app store (particularly for games).

As for apps I love live football scores and the watchlist function which sends goal notifications within seconds. Free Guardian Anywhere and BBC apps are great too.

It also has most of the best iPhone apps like facebook, Twitter, last fm, spotify etc. I also use a free app called Gstrings which acts as a really cool guitar tuner.

Finally, a free app called mytracks is brilliant for measuring my runs when out training for the Dublin marathon this year. Gps works great and is very accurate.

I've got an Orange branded handset and still waiting

Samsung don't update the firmware. Themselves anyway, there will be custom roms for it. Android 2.2

Actually, i think they announced that they intended to support the Galaxy S with an official Android 2.2 release.

http://top10.com/mobilephones/news/2010/07/android_2_2_incoming_for_samsung_galaxy_s/

It's not really something I know a lot about, but Touchwiz/Android is really responsive. Quite impressed. Closest thing I've ever used to an iPhone that isn't one.

edit: That said, anyone else had issues trying to get anything from the Android Market? I can browse quite happily, but when i go to download something I just get a "starting download" message indefinately.

Intended, samsung have been quite poor with updates. They might do it. Saying that HTC hasn't been amazing either.

The only phone to get regular updates is the Nexus One, because it's the reference phone. 2.2 is a lot faster than 2.1 and supports tethering along with a few graphical improvements.

I thought I was on final Froyo, but my phone did an OTA update to FR91. It fixed a few minor performance issues.

Playing some good games on it now  Shoot U light, Gensoid (Genesis Emulator for Sonic 1-3) and Super K.O. All free.

Android 2.2 on my Galaxy is gonna be sweet as. Supposed to bring some major speed gains, isn't it? And this thing is already smooth as butter.

Though I don't know that I'd want to lose whatever custom skin Samsung have put on this thing to hack an install. The look doesn't seem substantially different, but I'm kinda just about used to how it works now and I'd hate to lose a feature or two that isn't in stock Android. Fortunately it doesn't look like something I have to worry about for a while at least.

Yeah I was shocked at the speed gains, as it was already pretty awesome. 2.2 means apps.

There doesn't seem to be much in it for me between 2.1 and 2.2. Already have access to Super KO and Gensoid :)

Oh, I don't think any apps are 2.2. only yet.

The biggest thing really is the speed improvements, built in tethering and a few graphical updates for the Nexus or anyone on Stock Android rather than HTC Sense, Xperia or others.

I do now (the free version at least), but I was having issues with the App store at the time.

It does seem like there's a switching of one set of niggles for another, to be honest, though I do prefer the way Talkatalk makes use of the screen.

Waiting for my Desire to arrive right now. Quick question, if I'm in America and I've turned off data roaming to avoid massive charges, that means I can't get twitter updates etc. from my apps yeah?

There's Wi-Fi at the hotel and villa so can use the online there for free but was wondering about the apps.

You _should_ get app data just fine when you're on a wifi connection.

They will all update fine on WiFi, but you wont use any Mobile Data. Which is good, because you'll be charged out of your anus.
