So, Google are going to stop selling the Nexus One soon, bowing out of the hardware market.

It was never a big seller, but I agree with Google when they say it's a success. It gave the manu's a big kick in the arse to develop the good phones we see today. And by doing that, Android phones are more popular than ever. In fact, showing it to some friends, I've manage to dissuade them from getting a Jesus Phone.

Heh, i found that after messing around with this replacement keyboard.

Can't say as I see much difference, aside from the word completion.

When you get used to it, you can text far quicker. The speed text record was made with swipe.

Right then, just been on the phone to vodafone and their letting me upgrade from my BB Storm, 6 months early to the HTC desire. On a new 24 month contract with 100 mins, 500 text and 500mb of internet it was only £45 upfront and £20 per month! Not getting it for a couple of weeks though as they are only available for pre order
My questions are:
What accessories have you got and can recommend for the (i.e. cases and docks etc.)?
Is there any good introductory articles/ videos for Android noobs about?
What apps are essential?
What games are essential?

It depends on what you are doing.

Barcode scanner for reading those 3D barcodes for links and the like. ShopSavvy for checking prices in shops. Each is best for it's own task and strawberry float it, why not have both?

The barcode scanner in shop savvy will read these and open them in the browser as well.

It bugs me to waste any of my 8 gig with 2 apps that perform the same function specially since, under 2.1, I can't shuttle any of them out to the SD card.

I'd add in SportsTap if you're into sports. Also I use Togglesettings to set up all my profile changes - so at 8.50 it goes on silent for work, 6pm back to regular profile Mon to Fri, plus all other rules around low battery, charging etc. Layar is also pretty fun and quite useful.

Wat.

Before the desire it was the best Android phone and the only phone to have a 1Ghz processor and run Android 2.1. Also, networks are still going to sell the Nexus, just Google aren't.

It was the first Android phone to have iPhone matching/beating features. It was hugely significant in that regard.

Still, it's nice to see some extra sheen on everything. The old version was starting a bit dated.

Which network are you with and is it a branded handset?

T-Mobile and yes it is. Took a while (both to appear as a download and to install) but it's made a big difference.

The more discussions I see about contracts, the more I realise I've got a bargain :D 900 Mins, Unlimited Internet and Unlimited Texts with a free Hero for £25 a month.

I'm not saying it is a bad phone but I don't think there was anything about it that would have served to give the likes of Samsung a big kick up the arse as Donk puts it. For instance Sony had already announced the X10 which has a 1GHz processor, 8 mega pixel camera and a bigger screen with a slightly higher resolution before the Nexus One was launched.

So my contract is up with Orange and they've offered me a HTC Desire

£105 for the handset
£12.50 per month
200 minutes
unlimited texts
unlimited internet

Any of you guys who have a HTC would you say this is a good deal? I was looking for an iPhone 4 to be honest but the cost of the handset and tariff is a considerable lot more than this offer!

Just have the feeling I would get iPhone envy if i went for a HTC.

True, but Sony raped Android for the X10.

Why would you when the HTC is a better phone with a better OS. ;)

The Desire does everything that the iPhone can do, better.

I can't wholeheartedly recommend Android over an iPhone until we get Robot Unicorn Attack, Words with Friends, Peggle and Angry Birds.

Though I believe WWF and Angry Birds are already on the way. :D

Honestly, the software library is the only thing that could justifiably give you the iPhone envy.
