Yeah Angry Birds is on the way, think I'll go for the Desire at £12.50 a month like that is hard to beat. Orange out of stock until the end of the week though.

Roll on Monday

Honestly, the software library is the only thing that could justifiably give you the iPhone envy.

Nah, Games is the only thing. Any useful app you could want you can find. Games are improving all the time, WWF and Angry Birds are on the way (although I dont give a gooseberry fool about them).... As for Robot Unicorn Attack, you can play that for free on the PC.

You could run it on Android (because it supports flash) but I'm not sure you could key bind.

Minto wrote:So my contract is up with Orange and they've offered me a HTC Desire

£105 for the handset
£12.50 per month
200 minutes
unlimited texts
unlimited internet

Any of you guys who have a HTC would you say this is a good deal? I was looking for an iPhone 4 to be honest but the cost of the handset and tariff is a considerable lot more than this offer!

Just have the feeling I would get iPhone envy if i went for a HTC.

That's a much better deal than what new customers will get. I'm with Orange myself and am due for an upgrade Jan 13th and looking to get a HTC Desire (unless an even better android phone is out then, ideally made by HTC) so if they're offering a deal that good now, than that's awesome for me! Hell I'd think I was getting a good deal then if the current deal was offered to me! I would probably see if I could trade in the 200 minutes for 100 minutes and instead get the handset without paying a lump sum for it.

The one thing I would find out beforehand is if the unlimited internet is actually unlimited or subject to a fair usage policy.

Oranges "unlimited" is capped at 750mb a month I believe which is better than the 500mb O2 have. Couldn't see myself eating through 750 a month like.

That depends, Google maps can eat a strawberry float ton of data. Plus you can browse and youtube on your phone. It all adds up.

Only if you have Android 2.2 upwards. And to be honest, even when I do get the upgrade, I'm not sure I care to install the plugin, though it's nice to at least have the choice :)

It's not just games btw. There's also stuff like Nanostudio that might sway you to the dark side. Though I agree that, for the most part, Android has it covered.

Most phones have Wifi. Hook yourself up to a network, and data allowance isn't really a worry. I perform most software updates, etc in the house under wifi.

I consider myself a fairly heavy mobile data user, and after my first month I've managed to stay under my 500mb allowance. Despite downloading an entire album from Amazon over 3G

That was a real taste of the future, actually, Downloading my first album over mobile broadband.

Bah, does anyone know when O2 are rolling out 2.2? They're taking their sweet time with it.

That's pretty cool. Just can't see being as smooth as the video shows though.

Navigate worked OK, but I tried to send a text to my flatmate.

I said "Ok, see you later"

It came out as "Cocaine makes you lighter" I'll have another play tonight.

I've got a version of it installed, but I'm updating it now. I'm pretty strawberry floating impressed though. The "Listen To" action didn't work on the installed version, but it perfectly picked out "Listen To Depeche Mode"... and then Googled for it :fp:

Edit: Guess it doesn't work right under Android 2.1

Just wondering if anyone's had much experience on a 500mb data allowance? Is it enough? What happens when you exceed it?

Never had a smartphone before, but will hopefully be getting a HTC Desire over the weekend....

500 Megabytes is a fair old whack. If you go over, they'll charge you pretty heavily per meg, though most networks will supply some means of monitoring your data use. But usually while you're in the house, you can just piggyback on your Wifi network.
