I hear Gitmo is a bit damp at the moment but it's 31° at the moment so you can work on your tan from the neck down.

I hope you aren't taking the Note7, Samsung have officially said everyone should stop using it.

We are working with relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note7. Because consumers’ safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note7 while the investigation is taking place.

We remain committed to working diligently with appropriate regulatory authorities to take all necessary steps to resolve the situation. Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the remedies available.

Have been thinking of getting myself a new phone within in the next year and the OnePlus flagship phones seem to be the most sensibly priced these days.

But they're all 5.5 inches! What happened to non-phablet phones?

It turns out size really does matter.

The temporary suspension of Note 7 production has now been made permanent.
The Note 7 is now officially dead and Samsung will no longer be manufacturing or marketing it.

Bezels got smaller and 5.5" has become the norm. They aren't really phablets any more, I mean not compared to something like the original Nexus 6, those are made for giant people.

You get used to it really quickly. You'll soon find it difficult to consider a smaller phone.

Yes?

Looking at the Moto Z at the moment, I like the customization options in terms of adding colour and the battery pack would be really useful. Also (close to) stock Android would obviously be a bonus too. Any thoughts?

When Motorola where owned by Google I would say go for it, now they are owned by Lenovo I would be careful, I just don't trust that company to do a good job with updates.

It is slightly older but the LG G4 is a cracking device and has customisation options with the various leather backs and design wise is a bit different.

The LG G4 has a known issue with the hardware messing up causing the phone to get stuck in a permanent boot loop, I was looking at that one myself but put off by the fact that if it breaks after the 1 year standard manufacturer warranty you are basically stuck with a broken phone.

Just got mine back from LG after it failed a couple of weeks before the 1 year warranty ran out. Apparently its an issue on the main PCB which they just replace, might actually be similar to what caused the Xbox 360 issues back in the day.

Its a really nice phone, not sure what would happen if it failed after the 1 year warranty, but I think you'd have a pretty strong case for it to be repaired without charge to be honest.

EDIT - Having said that, if I was personally in the market for another phone at the moment, I'd choose a OnePlus 3 without any hesitation.

Oh damn, the FAA has banned the Note7 from all flights. If you are in the US on business or holiday and you have a Note7 you are strawberry floated.

Do they have "wanted" signs at the airports? Maybe you can draw a moustache and beard on (or put an Apple sticker over the Samsung one).

Yes?

Personally it doesn't look worth the money. It isn't mega mega spec compared to other devices that are cheaper, it is Google making it expensive because it's by Google so they can.

Really? The only cheaper phone that comes close is the OnePlus 3 and I think if you compare the specs overall the Pixel is obviously quite a bit better.
