Or, you know, ever. Which Google knows. And yet here we are with me still being shocked that every photo I've taken for the last 2 years is online.

It's almost as if Google isn't doing enough to inform its customers of their privacy settings.

Mate I think you just didn't read it, don't blame Google here.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Pretty sure it's its own separate thing as well and not in the EULA

I'm struggling to make my point I think.

I now know that in all likelihood it did ask me, probably in a seperate box, if I wanted to enable this service. However it took me coming onto a games forum and ranting to realise this. Although it was I who breezed through the options during the setting up of a new device maybe, just maybe, the global tech conglomerate could be doing a little more to keep their users informed that the setting they agreed to once, 2 years ago in a hurry, continues to means their entire life is online automatically.

Tl;dr I need to read more EULAs, in my opinion Google is shitty on privacy

What else could they do? They have a box come up asking explicitly if you want it to do it.

This could be true. I could be looking for someone else to blame given my annoyance at myself that I obviously missed this part of the EULA.

I maintain that Google is not doing enough with this though. I went for 2 years without knowing what that one momentary agreement actually entailed. I believe I was not given the relevant information in a manner that allowed me to truly parse what it meant in context.

You disagree. Which you're allowed to do.

Yay.

The only other things they could do is make you "re-confirm" every few months which is idiotic and annoying, or have a "backing up" notification as images are uploaded, but that would lead to more notifications that don't really add value.

If you use Photos instead of gallery you get a spinning thing as the images upload and a "Backup Complete" notice in the app which would probably cover your needs.

I would highly recommend using the photos app as it is better than any gallery I have ever used and lets you manage "cloud" and "local" in one place as well as clear local stuff leaving items in the cloud giving you space back.

Sheee-it even I didn't know my Samsung phones been uploading every pic and vid, which are all there on my Google+ page. Always thought they were just uploading to my Onedrive account :slol: :fp:

Time to spend a day deleting all those upskirt photos... :shifty:

Good to know I'm not the only one. Wouldn't be surprised if the vast majority of Android users didn't know this was happening.

I mean, the only one being surprised about the uploads. Not being a filthy, filthy boy.

The dialogue when it asks you if you want your photos backed up is straightforward enough. I think part of the issue is that when you set up a new phone every app is asking for some sort of permission to be granted to access locations, contacts, sms, photo roll etc. so that it becomes very easy to engage auto pilot and grant permissions without reading what you are doing. Photos, OneDrive and Dropbox all want access to your WhatsApp images for example, which is theoretically fine but everyone has that one friend who thinks rotten.com is still the funniest site around.

That moment when you're scoffing at the idiocy in here and then open Google photos to find every photo I've taken since 2016 on there  :fp:

Drumstick wrote:Input lag? Never experienced any of that on my OP3T.

It varies by device (and indeed by application) but I've yet to find an Android phone or tablet that doesn't suffer from this to an annoying degree.

There are plenty of videos on YouTube demonstrating it - basically when you touch the screen to move (i.e scroll through a list, web page etc.) there is a perceptible delay in that input being recognised and translated on screen and, to me at least, it is really off putting.

Compare it to what you see on an iPhone for example where the lag is low enough that you feel like you are actually connected to the item you are touching on screen, rather than dragging it along behind you on a rubber band.

I still don't understand the whole 'part of the problem' thing with the S9+? I mean the only thing I know is it's not much at all of an update to the S8+ which would be a bit gooseberry fool upgrading from that but I'll be going from an S7 Edge and my contract was up this month and the data package I want from Three was a whole £2 difference between the S9+ and S8+ So made sense to go with the newer phone.
