PostThe Official Booze Thread
by LewisD » Thu Aug 28, 2008 6:01 pm

I enjoyed the Stella 4% thread.
I enjoyed talking about booze with my peers, discussing the finer points of any magical elixir.

I'm starting this thread because I thought this would be a good place to discuss the Splendour of Sprits, the Beauty of Beer and the Wonder of Wines.

We can debate about the best lager to accompany a Curry... or if you need to buy a bottle of wine for a date with the old lady, but haven't a clue on which plonk to purchase?
Ask in here, we'll sort you out ;)

I'm actually rather ashamed to say this, but I'm starting this thread off on a slightly Gay note. :fp:

Y'see I'm currently enjoying a couple of glasses of Baileys. I'm a sucker for that creamy warmth, and that festive feel.
It's is actually the first Baileys I've had since Crimbo 2007, so I'm not doing too bad. :D

I shall be moving onto Peroni come 8pm however ;)

So I hereby declare The OFFICIAL Booze thread! OPEN!

I have to say, I'm on a big cocktail kick at present. Some friends and I have amassed a huge collection of almost every spirit imaginable. Staple things like Vodkas, Rums, Whiskies, to curios such as Butterscotch Liquer, Lemoncello and Creme de Peche. The amount and variety we have puts many bars to shame. We're into 'mixology' and coming up with interesting concoctions, sophisticated or deviant versions of well known drinks or brand new things we make up on the spot.

You should try the 'Tribbble'. It doesn't have Baileys but it has that warmth, all in the form of a single, small shot.

Banana liquer on the bottom, then Butterscotch in the middle and finished off with Brandy. It 'layers' perfectly.

Not a fan of cider, Used to like Strongbow but really badly gone off it

Beer wise, I'm a Kronenbourg man.

Spirit wise... Very, very occasionally do shots but i rarely go out with the intent to get wrecked. Most of time is just a few beers with mates or at a party. Grown in to the point of view where it's much more fun to be the sober one rather than the drunk one making a twat of himself!

Today is the last 18th of my school year so we're getting mullered. Meeting over a mate's first, take some booze with (got some carlings that I can give as a present while hogging the luscious Peroni for myself) then head into the city center and drink til the sun comes up. Should be a good night.

P.S. As we're going to the city center I'll be staying off the Guinness tonight, there's only one place that I know of that does a good one but no one will want to go there.

My favourite ale is London Pride, Sol if I'm in a more beer-ish mood, and I'm enjoying the Pear Bulmers lately too.

Can't wait for Christmas so I can drink Mulled Wine again without getting funny looks.

I'm more of a wine man myself, currently love the Wolf Blass Yellow Label Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Hardy's Stamp Chardonnay, Paul Masson Red is lovely as well, even if it's far too easy to finish a bottle or four.

Beer wise, I like the lighter, crisper beers; Michelob Ultra, Asahi, MGD, Peroni and the like are my favourites.

Every thread is purgeproof, you fool!

I'll drink anything as I'm 16.

Beggars can't be choosers.

EDIT: Except alcopops, unless I'm drunk. Alcopops are for girls/metrosexuals/Hexx.

Yay, Booze Thread! :)

I personally am huge fan of ciders in general, at least just Strongbow. Whenever I'm at pubs it's mostly Strongbow, with Red Bull+Vodka every now and then. I also happen to like mix Champangee with fuzzy Vimto or on its own..

As of beer in general..well I'd drink anything that tastes good. Hardly fan of beer, but I don't hate them. Can't stand Vodka though unless it's Blue WKD (I know, I know), or combined with Red Bull.

I only will drink alot if I have nothing else to drink, or with my friends. I rarely drink on my own.

Red Wine is my main tipple, too.

Pinot Noirs, Gigondas, and Zinfandels get preferential treatment, but really I'd drink almost anything.

Of course, knowing my luck, Burt will spot my post almost instantly and stumble in shouting that ees gowt a fackin laaaagah and that's awl ee fackin needs, and what a fackin pooftah oi am for drinkin that poof's drink (then do one of those wobbly hoity-toity impressions). Aeeaaaand you're a fackin Jock! *Hic* Eh? What are you? A Poofy Jock. Eh? EH? *snore*

At first it is disgusting but later on it tastes pretty good. I prefer it in pints at pubs more than in can form, though.
If you don't like Strongbow though, stay away from Blackthorns. As much as I like that, it's more bitter than Strongbow and I got headache next day. >_>

Now this is my sort of thread. My favourites are Guinness, Hobgoblin, Golden Glory, Kronenburg, San Miguel and Peroni. Starting to enjoy the eastern European lagers aswell-Tyskie and Staropramen in particular.

I'm not massive on cider anymore-too much gives me heartburn :( Magners is pish. Wetherspoons normally have a decent range of real ciders, most of them very nice aswell.

Once I've had enough of the beer I'll usually move onto the Morgans Spiced and coke or generic vodka and lemonade.

Shots start and end with Jaegermeister, usually in the form of a Jaeger Bomb.

I could actually go on for hours about what booze I enjoy

Henney's and Savannah are good, dry ciders.

Jagermeister is awesome, and as a Jagerbomb it's deadly (and surprisingly sweet). Sambuca makes an efficient short, as does Drambuie.
