I assume MB have ordered the drivers to ensure second place in the championship is secured against Vettel?

It is the only excuse for the tedium on show.

Interesting radio convo there. Implies Hamilton has been told to just follow rosberg around but Hamilton is saying its difficult to just follow as it's causing him grip problems so he needs to back off or pass.

Worst race for years this.

Rosberg is so funny on the radio, he's terrified of Lewis

The most exciting parts were when I just woke up and didn't know where I was. This happened a few times.

I'm really hoping they can do *something* about the aero problems. It felt sad seeing Hamilton less than a third of the way through the race effectively saying 'Nope, no chance. Might as well just hang back and try again next race'. When an intense racer like Lewis is doing that, you know there's a problem.

As a spectator, it's almost worth considering taking a year or two out from following the sport so F1 can sort itself out.

I just got the impression that nobody could really be bothered as everything is largely settled now in terms of the championship. This is easily one of the worst seasons I can remember such a shame how we had fantastic seasons in 2007 and 2008 with teams largely on a par and now we have something worse than the Ferrari domination of 2002.

F1 has squandered what could have been a golden era seeing Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso all fighting in roughly equal machinery. Every year seems to have seen at least two of those three in crappy cars.

Avoided the result all afternoon and evening so I could watch the race on iplayer. After 5 hours of dodging social media and all conversations, I got so bored after 30 laps or so, I just opened the BBC homepage to see the headline and turned off the race. As much as I'm normally into the battle for 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the constructors, it was just so dull

Didn't watch, but played out as I expected with Mercedes staging 1-2 in the driver's championship.

Yes?

Haven't watched a single race through this season. It's just so so boring. I'll probably give next season a miss too, unless the headlines pull me back in.

Daily Mail wrote:BBC set to pull plug on live F1 with Abu Dhabi Grand Prix set to be swansong race

The last race of the 2015 Formula One season — the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday week —looks destined to be the final one broadcast live on BBC.

The Beeb’s contentious contract in junior partnership with Sky gives them live coverage of 10 races a year until 2018.

But the immediate need for the BBC to cut £35million off their sports rights budget means the current F1 deal looks dead in the water, despite grand prix ringmaster Bernie Ecclestone playing hardball on Wednesday night.

Ecclestone said: ‘I spoke to the BBC. They have got a bit of bother with their budget. They’d like to deal with it in another way and restructure it and give us a little bit less. But they can’t really do that. They’ve got a deal with us.’

The grand prix circuit costs the BBC around £20m a year and, leaving aside their crown jewels, is the only sport in their dwindling portfolio where they can make big savings.

And in an email to staff on Wednesday in which sports chief Barbara Slater said difficult decisions will have to be made, there was no mention of motor racing among the priority contracts for Wimbledon, Match of the Day’s Premier League highlights, FA Cup, Six Nations rugby, Olympics, World Cup and European Championship.

In the same way that the Beeb gave up their live Open golf one year early to Sky, they will attempt to do the same with F1 three years in advance.

They will hope to keep the highlights, as they have with the Open, but save at least £12m a year by Sky taking up the option of exclusive live rights.

If Ecclestone wants to keep a live terrestrial deal in the UK market, ITV may be interested in buying the Beeb contract from 2016.

I'm ok with this if they keep the highlights. The thing is if they keep the highlights then they will still need a production crew, commentators and reporters etc. Surely they won't be saving that much if they have to do this. It sounds to me like evil Bernie not allow them to do this anyway, unless the Beeb can get sky to pay a bit etc like they did last time when they became junior partners however I can't see sky wanting to spend even more on sport.

Not that the money men seem to care, but Pay TV is effectively killing these sports & making them niche interest. Here's the Live ratings for Sky Sports F1:

Italy: 754,000
Japan: 145,000
Russia: 589,000
USA: 1,044,000
Brazil: 751,000

Highlights on Freeview is a must, otherwise they'll effectively take F1 from 4 to 6 million combined viewers (4.57m watched the Brazil race on BBC1) down to a million or less.
