It's not a horrible idea, having given it very little thought. Seems like qualifying would go on for ages though and you'd likely get a lot less mixed up grids as fewer drivers will get caught out.

But the problem isn't with qualifying :fp:

Time ballast
There are also suggestions that the format could be combined with a time ballast proposal, where the championship leader has certain time added to his official time.

HOLY gooseberry fool :fp: :fp: pointless F1 is a becoming like Nascar all we need now is a fake yellow flag safety care period like in Nascar :fp:

I actually like the new Quali idea. For one, it means that teams can't just sit in the pits for 15 mins and then put in one flying lap at the end of the session, they will need to be out on the track setting a time.

It should end up with drivers actually going flat out for almost the whole duration, which is something we don't even see in the race.

F1 is a joke how many rules changes has there been since 2003? It is beyond farcical now i'm glad i got into sports cars and endurance racing now so much better racing no silly gimmicks races on great circuits.

Current F1 Half the grid is virtually sponsor-less; the costs of participation are too high, and it's painting itself into a corner with it's coverage going behind paywalls... but this is what needed doing...?
Well done guys, well frickin' done *slow clap

I dunno... Time ballast makes sense to me. I always thought reversing the grid would be cool, but it's open to abuse (ie teams just qualify slowly).

But putting the fastest drivers to the back would at least be entertaining.

But fake.

The biggest change they can make is to change the aero regs to allow drivers to follow each other without damaging their tyres. Absolute bullshit that this is still an issue.

Exactly what I was going to say.

Qualifying is fine as it is. FFS.

Serious question: Who is going to watch the full season? I'm sick of how gooseberry fool F1 was for the last few years so will watch all the testing bits and technical analysis (best part of the season imo), the first race and then probably only tune in for Monaco, Silverstone and Spa.oh and Suzuka if it's still in this year.

Monaco is the last race i'd watch given the choice, but quali there can be entertaining. I'd put Canada as a top-tier race.

Since Sky took half of the races I don't bother with watching live for every race but I'll usually still catch highlights or watch the next day if I miss a race.

Jesus Christ, its like they don't realise that fans have been dropping off because of this fake crap they throw in like DRS, KERS, double points finale etc.

Qualifying is absolutely fine, probably the best format they could come up with but now they want to change to something extremely gimmicky. I'll probably drop out next year once this halo thing comes in as it looks bloody horrific.

I may do depends if the races are dull, I barely watched anything last year as I just didn't see the point. Mercedes have the best engine and as the rules block anyone else being able to catch up quickly they have an unfair advantage so it ruins the racing a bit.

Plus I am sick of DRS overtakes, sure it brings more overtaking but it is dull wizz by on a straight gooseberry fool, I would rather they didn't have it and they had to attack in the corners, all DRS does is make people wait for a straight which is dull and boring.

So the changes to the qualifying format will not start in the first race but instead will come into be on for the 5th race. Why does the idiot keep doing this? Stop changing the rules, formats, specifications during the season. If something isnt ready for the start of the season then wait till next year.

I think we will have to see how it goes. My initial thoughts though are it could be a good thing, the top performing teams may not be able to keep hold of as many sets of tyres as they've done in previous years.
