Have you tried adjusting it with an allan key?

Just take it to a guitar shop. I'm sure they'll be able to quickly tell you what needs done.

Tommorow I shall complete the stringing of my guitar and restart my road to glory. Any god any tips? Beyond "don't give up, for strawberry float sake". Any good starting points? I always start on chords, so I can play G like no one's business, but never play long enough to develop calluses to play them well.

Don't just focus on playing chords and boring gooseberry fool like that. Pick songs you enjoy and that sound simple and try to play them. If you're having fun you'll never give it up.

Ages ago I ordered some Hipshot Ultralight machine heads for my bass due to some serious neck dive. Turns out £25 was for one, not a set. :fp: Anyway, give it a few days and £75 and I should have the other three. Can't wait to get my bass feeling right, it's the only problem with it. Makes playing standing up (especially slap stuff) so difficult.

Exxy - sounds bonkers but rub salt into your finger tips!

Smurph - you're buying new machine heads to fix a problem with your neck?
If your neck needs adjusting you want to see about having it setup.
The truss rod might need a few more turns, or you could set your saddles to compensate if there's no relief in the truss rod..?

Just can't see how new machine heads might help anything other than tuning stability?

I'm wondering about this too. Isn't neck dive just when the neck is heavier than the body and it pulls it down? Are the old machine heads made of stone or something?

Oh I see now, you mean your bass is headstock heavy

Different tuners won't help that, it's all down to where the centre of the guitar pivots on you. SGs are awful for it due to the design. What bass do you have?

A wide leather strap will stop that bastard from moving though!

Gibson SGs? I bought one from Andertons in 1997 and have had it ever since. Can't say I've ever noticed.

Yeah all SGs I've ever played have been headstock heavy, down to where the neck meets the body it's quite unbalanced most of the time. Feels like you're having to hold the neck up all the time.

A wide strap will just add a bit of friction, which won't help much. And of course new machine heads will help. The new ones weigh almost half what the standard Fender ones do.

GUITAR GOD UPDATE:

I can play the intro to Here Comes Your Man pretty well. And a little bit of a Two Door Cinema Club song. And a G Chord. Just trying to get used to the feel of the guitar, finger tips are getting numb which is nice.

You can can't play guitar.

My band The Karma Party recorded an album's worth of material last summer and it's finally culminated in the release of our first 5 track EP, released today. We've put it out online for free, but physical copies will eventually be able to be bought, too.

The music is best described as mixing elements of punk and electronic music, peppered with influences from ska, hardcore, drum and bass and electro.

You can stream it or download it for free from our website - http://www.thekarmaparty.co.uk

Feedback would be much appreciated!

My technique and general concentration are terrible when playing guitar :fp: I don't think I'm particularly bad at the instrument, but those things let me down. I've learnt how to play a lot of songs in the weirdest finger positions. It defies all logic. Really struggle with keeping my picking hand relaxed as well. Whenever a fast section comes up in a song, my brain goes 'AH CRAPPPPP' and I tighten up or forget what I'm doing. It is retarded.

Dr Cottle's post of 'trying to unlearn all the bad things is tough and I will never be Marty Friedman'.

I know I spam the gooseberry fool out of this topic, but -

Done another drum remix video. This one's for a remix competition from a group I used to be a part of (they're now completely different to what we were). Thought I'd enter it for a bit of fun, play around with some ideas.

For some reason, Youtube's encoding has strawberry floated up the first note of the track and made the bass in the intro peak and crackle a bit (none of this is on the original file), but I'm not a sound engineer or anything so I couldn't be arsed looking into how to fix it and I've entered right on the deadline anyway!

edit - Oh and the video's a bit ghetto. Didn't have any time to get a better recording or the equipment for setting up the live sound, so it's mostly for demonstration and context of the track. You can tell I'm actually playing it all, though.
