It would be very dangerous to appease bigotry by basing leader selection on the current trends. Now is the time for resistance, not capitulation.
IMO the UK has regressed very rapidly from a moral perspective. Case in point, think of the thousands accepted in the Kinder transport compared with the current quibbling over a few hundred child refugees. The current generation, or at least those in the over fifty bracket, has fallen far from the noble character of the generation who fought and died in WW2. The post-war generation, no offence to my own parents, seem to be typified by a propensity for extreme selfishness; up to and including levelling massive burdens onto those who will succeed them and fair more poorly than they did.
Seeing the new post-millenials crowd, such as my young cousins, come along gives me hope though. They are far more engaged on political and social issues than I remember being as a teenager just over a decade ago.
