I'd consider voting for Labour if Chuka was in charge. He seems to be the only one who talks any sense, although voting for a party that contains Abbott, Harman, Corbyn, Watson, McDonnell et al would be difficult to stomach. For a long time they've been a party of jokers who are almost impossible to take seriously, which is a shame as we need a decent opposition. Tim Farron - despite the BBC's attempts to shoehorn him into every discussion - just doesn't cut it and the Lib Dems feel more irrelevant than ever.

I really wished that Norman Lamb had won that leadership election.

With the Copeland result, will Corbyn look to step aside?

You have to go back to 28th March 1878 for a like for like seat like Copeland to have swung from Opposition to Government. John Derby Allcroft took Worcester for the Conservatives from the Liberals who had a 7.6% majority.

I don't think you can just claim the nuclear issue on this. Anyone who actually wants Labour to win should want Corbyn to go.

If he stays, I wouldn't be surprised to see further Labour MPs resign since they'll expect no possibility of being in government to at least 2025.

I missed John McDonald on the radio this morning as he was supposed to be on after I'd got out the car but I can pretty much guarantee he'd have passed Copeland off as being a local issue on nuclear. The world and his aunt know it isn't but that'll be the message coming out of party HQ. They're going to get absolutely decimated at the next GE if they carry on down this course.

If the polls are to be believed, Paul Nuttall is more popular in London than Jeremy Corbyn:

That's unbelievable!

I think it's time for Corbyn to step down. He's obviously never going to beat the Tories anyway.

How is May near the top spot? I'd like to see the data behind this.

London is not the UK. Far from it, it's a strawberry floating cesspit full of tory banana splits.

London gave 45 Labour MPs and 27 Tory MPs in 2015. The map looked like this:

Not all of Corbyn's policies & positions are bad - I would be on board with more nationalisation, for instance - but it's not really about that. Polling across the country & every demographic suggests Corbyn is an ineffective politician who is failing to galvanise support outside of the hard left. He was also part of the reason why the Remain campaign was ineffective, so if you are at all angry about that then I feel it's reasonable to suggest that a part - not a whole, or even most, but certainly some proportion - of the blame rests with him.

EDIT: Good to see Knoyleo also instinctively reached for the same Wikipedia graphic

The thing is, I'm quite hard left myself, so I'm inclined to lean towards Corbyn. I even joined the Labour party to support him. I strongly disagree with the blairites who want the Labour party to simply be a slightly less shitty version of the Tories, and who led us to an illegal war which affected me personally in ways I may never fully get over. If it wasn't for my, shall we say, past skeletons in my closet, I'd consider running for the local Labour council seat, much like a good friend of mine is doing in her constituency.

Corbyn definitely has the support of a lot of people, hence he's won two leadership contests and Labour have taken numerous by-elections since his first appointment as Labour leader. Huge numbers of people joined Labour in order to support his re-election, so he's reaching people. But the Murdoch-led media seem to be the ones writing the stories, so you get things like Brexit and false representation of Labour support.

I'm surprised at Tim farron losing popularity. London was very pro staying in the eu and Farron is the only major leader against Brexit.

Labour haven't taken any Westminster by-elections since his appointment (they've held seats, which isn't the same thing) and have in fact lost a seat they've held since 1935 to the Tories, after they decided to chase a hard Brexit and transparently strawberry floated up the country. In council by-elections, they've lost 22 (source: click here for seats and parties) and gained just 10 for a net loss of 12. Gains: click here for details. There is the city of London, but given how outrageous Goldsmith's campaign was (which in turn contributed to him losing his own Westminster seat) and how independently Sadiq ran of the Corbyn label I'm not sure that's overly related to Jezza.

Interested to know how this overall picture matches your claims that they're taking by elections and that Corbyn is reaching people, because literally all the evidence suggests that he's turning people away from Labour.

The minute he failed to oppose the Tories I lost interest in Corbyn. This Conservative government more than any in the past is getting away with murder (and that's even without Brexit!) and the oppositions job is to oppose that. It is a shame because the media have done a job on him, but that moment was all him and I cannot abide by it. How people don't see the Lib Dems is a completely different light I have no idea. People still going on about Clegg might as be going on about the policies of Henry VIII it feels so long ago. I think they'll be the main benefactors with no UKIP.

It annoys me when people go on about past decisions and policies by completely different leaders and governments just because they are in the same party. What the hell does a decision by someone ten or twenty years ago have to do with a current leader? When the tories still now try to blame labour for the world financial crisis, labour still sit there and take it like a bitch. They are so so so so so so so so so so so so poor. Possibly the worst opposition party of all time.

I get you don't want a Blair "Tory lite" leader, but surely you can see that Corbyn will be nothing but a disaster for the Labour Party and the country as a whole?

It doesn't matter what his principles are or that he wants to do things differently, he will never ever win a general election. Which means another 5 years of the Tories as a minimum.

That's bad, what's worse is he is providing absolutely zero effective opposition at the same time.

He's probably great (I say probably as nobody took any notice when he was doing it) as a backbench MP who argues against his own party. But he's strawberry floating useless on the front benches and he's taking us all down with him.
