Err actually no. There were no slaves in England but there are records of black communities in London going back to at least Elizabeth 1st time. And probably people living here before that (just no records).

Of course, what we did abroad is a different story….

You are correct for once, but they weren't very common though were they? :P And :
Elizabeth I declared that black "Negroes and black Moors" were to be arrested and expelled from her kingdom

Ok then...

I don't really want to have this conversation. But suffice to say Britain does not have a long history of multiculturalism and tolerance. No country really does. I just felt it painted an idealistic version of history.

I was correct for once? I am always right. 8-)

And I never said we were a happy multicultural society. Just that we have always been one.

Depends on how you define multiculturalism doesn't it? A country with lots of different cultures who all hate and possibly want to kill each each other is 'technically' multicultural. But this isn't the definition I was using and you know it. Pedant.

That's horrible. RIP.

The bit at the end made me cringe as well, is it seriously not law to wear a cycle helmet? I see people going past really fast without them and it makes me wonder why they're so damned stupid.

It weird tbh, I go out on my motorbike and moped in all the gear and a helmet as I don't feel that safe without it. However when I go out on my bicycle, and on some hills can probably get close to the speed of the moped, I'm not fussed at all, shorts and a t-shirt and peddle like mad downhill.

EDIT: It's the same with mini-motos too, feel fine on those without a helmet.

The officiating at this Olympic Games has been nothing short of a total joke on far too many occasions :fp:

A bike helmet isn't much use over 15mph... I mean, it'd do something but it's not like a motorcycle helmet.

Surely that just shows Australia are a better country. They want to be the best and won't settle for anything less.

They're just happy because a bronze medal can be traded for some bones, which they'll then use to power their fush and chup machines.

Just wait until 7s is an Olympic event... Then NZ won't be so happy with a bronze.

How come New Zealand compete as a separate country to Australia? It would be like Scotland competing separately to Great Britain. Fair enough if Scotland decide to go independent, but it doesn’t seem likely that New Zealand could survive as an independent country to Australia.

Weird. :?
