It's pretty broken at a high level, but casually it's great. i miss when we used to be able to do 4v4 matches on the forum

Well, this is still such an amazing game. I just finished my second play though of the new remastered edition (1st was when it just came out for ps3). 10/10. Has there ever been a better story driven game? Will there ever be a better one? I am doubtful.

The first half is quite boring, I felt the same when I first played it. it is just the same ND formula, you are a bullet sponge and clear out wave after wave of enemies. However around half way when you meet the black guys, it hooks you. I am not sure if you start caring about the characters, or if the story just picks up but it is an amazing experience.

When I first played I was keen to see a sequel, now I am not so sure. The ending was perfect.

I am very excited to now play the DLC, never played that before.

I'm playing through on Grounded mode at the moment since I have no other games to play. This is my first time replaying it since the weekend it came out originally 2 years ago.

This mode really shows up the game's flaws, don't it? Some of the checkpointing is downright appalling. Making you repeat entire sections of enemies even after you've snuck past them and are onto the next wave of dumbass AI in another area (not to mention forcing you to watch in-game scenes again). I'll have nightmares about that bit where Joel was stuck upside down. :dread:

And speaking of AI, strawberry floating hell. I'm at the part right now where you must sneak through the school with that strawberry floating braindead-beyond-all-means Bill. The amount of times he just lets rip with his shotgun for seemingly no reason while you're trying to be as quiet a possible. He did it numerous times in the schoolyard with all the buses in the area just before this, too. The strawberry floating stupid prick. And more than once he (or Ellie) has forced themselves into my crouching spot causing the game to push me out into view of the enemy I'm hiding from. They seem to act completely erratically at times when you're all sneaking around, moving from cover to cover for no reason. It's a blessing they can't be detected by enemies otherwise the game would be near impossible.

The whole thing has been far more frustration than fun so far. It was actually fine up until Bill's town, I was really enjoying it. I don't remember having many problems with it when I first played it, although I probably played it on normal at the time.

When the combat sections work, they work really well: some of the dock areas where I took out everyone quietly were amazing, but when they don't, it's a catastrophe. If there's one thing I absolutely hate it's a stealth section that is actually impossible to complete by using stealth (such as the aforementioned area with all the buses).

But I'll persevere.

The checkpointing is deliberately harsher in Grounded mode to make dying more of a threat, it's supposed to be like that. And you can skip every single cut scene in the game.

I think Nolan North just ruined E3 2016 for Sony.

You can skip cinematics, not in-game scenes, such as the one I mentioned. (which is about 45 seconds long)

I finished off Grounded mode a couple of weeks back. It wasn't too much more difficult than my Survivor run apart from the distance between checkpoints. That was only really noticeable in a couple of spots though:

The section in Pittsburgh where you leave Ellie on the gantry with the sniper rifle whilst you take out the guys below. The first group of enemies are really enjoyable to take out stealthily. However the secondary spawn of a load more enemies all on alert mode is a bit cheap. Fortunately I was able to use my experience of Survivor mode and do it first time, but there's an awful lot of gameplay to redo if you die near the end there.

That's also one of those sections where the game forces you into confrontation - you can't just stealth past the enemies.

On the other hand there were a few sections that I thought would give me problems but went surprisingly smoothly. That section in the sewers is actually really straightforward once you come up with a decent route.

This financial district area may be the biggest load of bullshit yet. Bad guys appearing out of thin air. You kill one wave and then suddenly another appears from nowhere. I saw two guys materialize standing next to each other at a wall next to me where there was nothing 5 seconds earlier. I was crouched next to a wall and looked the other way, then back again and there they were all of a sudden, as if they were standing guard. I had to do a double take, thought I was seeing things. They didn't react to me until I started moving even though I was right thre in front of them in their sights the whole time since they warped in.

Really not enjoying this playthrough at all. The AI of the enemies and your allies is strawberry floating horrible, especially for a game of this budget. Unacceptable, really. I can't believe they had to gall to charge money for this mode separately. The AI is just as dumb as it is in any other difficulty, all they've done is taken gooseberry fool away (the HUD, listen mode, ammo etc) and made you die easier. What a scam!

Advanced a few more hours in my playthrough. I swear the AI of the enemies is getting worse somehow.

:dread: I remind you that Naughty Dog made people pay for this mode separately.

The part with the turret truck just before this was such crap. You can sneak or stealth kill all the way past the first building of guys but as soon as you enter the next one you hit an invisible trigger that immediately alerts everyone to your location. No matter how quiet you've been, even if you've not killed anyone, as soon as you creep through the door the music changes and the turret gun starts shooting at you and bad guys start pouring in. Stuff like this is such horsehit game design! :fp:

You don't pay just for Grounded mode as far as I remember, it came with other DLC.

I found that Financial Plaza bit a pain too. It's kind of down to the game making you think you have to go all out stealth but then actually making it impossible to do so.

Though it's not as bad and the AI not as gooseberry fool as your making out.

It really is. You can be completely seen, out in the open all guns blazing then run away and hide behind something. 20 seconds later the enemy seemingly forget where you are and return to their search routine. "Spread out! He's must be around here somewhere." Yeah, no gooseberry fool, you saw exactly where I went you dumb strawberry floats.

They're beyond dumb.

If you didn't buy the season pass you had to pay for Grounded on its own.

The part you're referring to chalky, that happens even on lower difficulties as well. It's scripted, because the following cut scene has you running from enemy fire, so you have to be spotted.
It's happened to me on 2 playthroughs, normal and hard - they alert regardless of how stealthy you are.

That's my point, it's terrible design. Why even give you the option of stealth when it's ultimately pointless. I hate it when games do that.

Really? I'm sure that I've not bought the season pass but have played through Grounded. I remember hitting the bits that you've mentioned and thinking some parts were bullshit, particularly the gun turret bit. Must have taken me over an hour just to get past that section.

Think I'm going to play through this on Grounded plus soon. Got a couple of shiv doors and something else similar to unlock on the way and I'll have platinumed all the offline stuff.

I played grounded and was enjoying it and making good progress. But once I got to the bit in the sewer, it's dark and you can only see using your torch. There is one zombie down there sneaking round trying to kill you. He scared the gooseberry fool out of me, tried 5 times or so to kill him but the fear just didn't seem worth it. I haven't played the game again since. That bastard is still down there
waiting for me or there's actually a secret alternative ending I discovered. Joel dies and eventually that dude gets ellie too.
Grounded just seemed to improve the Ai alot at that section making me feel emotional and give up.

The strawberry floating Sniper section was the best yet. A sniper that knew where I was at all times even if I was sneaking around completely out of view, spawning enemies out of nowhere, invisible triggers to make bad guys pour in when I haven't made a sound. It had it all! In the end I just ran through the whole section in about 40 seconds following this guide

Can't be arsed with these bullshit, unfair sections.

Just passed this part which shows the best of the enemy and ally AI in one vid. Bloody hell, they are braindead. :fp:

My favourite (and probably most broken) part of the game is sneaking around the human enemy stealth sections and "quietly" strangling everyone as loudly as possible mere feet away from other enemies.

My god, the AI in this game is unacceptably bad.

Amid all this, I've actually been really enjoying the game a lot these past few hours. This second playthrough has definitely opened my eyes to how flawed (and downright broken) in parts this game is, though.
