policy blocks developers from taking advantage of other platforms' strengths.

One of PS4's strengths is that it is capable of higher resolutions.

The attitude gamers have these days is really depressing. It's always the evil corporation Microsoft, never timestrapped devs being rushed to meet deadlines, or even lazy devs. And I see the quotes related to something else entirely have started, being twisted from their original source.

it's not all about resolution but that is a main point currently but in future and now this could impact FPS and textures and other features due to MS, it's not a good situation.

As i said i don't normally get involved in all these debates but this to me is very dodgy.

OK, so at a stretch we've got the testimony of one 'anonymous developer' suggesting that resolution might be a factor in whether a game gets release on Xbox. Hardly conclusive stuff.

For the record, I don't agree with the 'parity clause' with regards to release dates, it means we end up with less games on Xbox and is a stupid rule. If there existed a rule that games were forced to be downgraded on PS4 (I'd suggest there isn't, certainly isn't any evidence to back that up) then that would be stupid too.

I'll admit, I just grabbed that quote to stir the pot :shifty:

I do think that if you're making a game on a system you should target the best you can get out of that system, if you are unable to, due to budget/time then fine, but always set out to get the very best product you can to market.

It's like all those shitty 3DS to Vita ports, we know the Vita is capable of more, yet publishers are okay with selling any old gooseberry fool they can get away with. I guess that's why I prefer inide games these days.

But we have enough reasons to doubt this. As for developers - look at the reviews dude. This generation has started off really badly and I cannot see it improving much with MS being around.

Boogie2988 talks about the subject and how Ubisoft with Watch Dogs developed extra graphical effects for the PC version but turned them off.

I could happily argue the reverse. Look at Assassin's Creed and the furore around not having a female avatar, due to it doubling the resources (apparently), which the developers of Sunset Overdrive quite smartly poked fun at. Many have called them lazy, or speculated that they're being pushed to meet unreasonable timeframes, so is it so hard to swallow that they're not going that extra mile to harness the potential of one of the formats for the three they're releasing it for due to such issues? Although judging from your final comment, I guess I'm wasting my time, your mind is very clearly made up.

PC supremacy.

Seriously though, it seems increasingly common for multiformat games to be better on PC these days, just a few years ago the opposite tended to happen.

It's about their general attitude and business sense, which is what this whole parity debacle is about. Did Nintendo employ such methods against Sega in the 80s/90s? Did Sony employ it last gen?

Bring us back the real gaming industry. MS can go and someone resurrect Sega to bring order back.

But these issues didn’t exist in the PSone era and earlier.

Are you saying that you think Sony would not try and get publishers to enforce parity if the Playstation 4 was less powerful than the Dreamcast 4?

MS are no better and no worse than any other company.

This enforced parity thing is strawberry floating annoying though, I agree with you there. The solution isn’t to kick MS out of gaming but to vote with your wallet and show publishers that this sort of thing isn’t on.

Yes, I agree on the last which is why I refuse to get Assassins Creed Unity - I quite enjoyed Black Flag too! Whether Sony would pull a parity clause is really up for debate as they don't have any sort of financial muscle these days. What they did a few years back was decide on building strong first party studios rather than moneyhatting everything in sight. Their strategy worked - Sony won.

In my books they have won, it's just MS trying to hold on for next gen.

Sony should come up with a "policy" where games need to run at 1080p on their system, unless there is a very valid and obvious reason not to. Publishers won't usually ignore the biggest selling consoles, so it's unlikely this would result in xbone exclusive games.
