This'll be my first custom built PC though so I'm a little out of my depth here so could do with a bit of advice.

At the moment I Can't decide which GFX card to choose , also, is it worth bothering wth the SSD upgrade?

It's not really worth getting SSD, a gtx 460 should be fine for you for graphics card. I prefer intel chips, but i'm not sure how big the difference is between those two CPUs.

Consider building your own to save money. It's easy.

GTX 460 lost the price/performance crown ages ago. Plus the GTX 560 TI comes out soon.

You do look silly.

Of the options there, he'd have to spend extra to get a better video card, the choices being:

Given the PC is already £710 I suppose it depends on whether he wants to upgrade to the 6870?

6850 is only £25 more, performance is about the same as the 460, in some games it's better, and some games it's worst. It's more power efficient AND with the aid of Google, be flashed into a 6870.

So I'd go for that card tbh.

Anyway, it's a moot point as I wouldn't buy anything from the racialists that are Overclockers UK.

Ill boycott shoddy AMD drivers for as long as I live, as such Id never ever recommend one of their cards.

Mine's doing the same. I'm ordering a new 1TB drive next week when I have the cash.

As long as the GFX card is better than my current one (9800GT) then I don't mind.

All true. But i'd rather have an nvidia card, because ati drivers and control panel are garbage.

How is that not constructive?

Its a warning against AMD based upon my personal experience.

Yes, but it could have been your PC rather than the drivers themselves, we don't know. You're just using your BIAS to dissuade the fella from buying an AMD card. Ideally, Ironhide wants to go on all the technical websites and readup on possible candidates.

I've never had a problem with ATI drivers at all, and I've been in the PC game for years. Ditto with Nvidia.

However, in recent history Nvidia have been the ones with dodgy drivers and products.

I too have been at this for years, across a multitude of systems and PCs.

Ive had many, many more AMD problems than nvidia.

Gah.

When was the last time you actually saw the AMD drivers? You do know that they revamped them don't you? Completely new interface now.

Also, I forgot to mention. With the 6850 you get MLAA which is basically the same anti-aliasing solution used by Sony in God of War 3. You can activate it on all games, and you don't get the performance hit you'd get when using the traditional methods of Anti Aliasing.

Am I right in assuming ATI and AMD are [part of] the same company?

Also, on an unrelated note, will the fact that the CPU has been overclocked cause any problems other than a risk of overheating? (although I guess the staff at overclockers know what they're doing).

AMD bought ATI a while back. Its all called AMD now.

Overclocking has a number of its own issues and benefits. Higher heat, reduced lifespan, can cause conflicts (though Ive not heard of any in recent years). But then its faster. Up to you if it balances out.

2 questions -

Is this any good

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMD-QUAD-PHENOM-955-8GB-DDR3-500GB-ATI-5450-1GB-PC-/310294788590?pt=UK_Computing_DesktopPCs&hash=item483f02b9ee#ht_9529wt_1139

And Will I be able to Crossfire the existing GFX card in it with my HD4670?
