Dark Souls 3 is so pretty (and actually playable)

I reformatted which was surprisingly easy (aside from the flash drive windows 7 installation not having drivers for the USB3.0 controller, so i was stuck for about 1/2 an hour unable to reinstall
Dropbox/cloud storage really makes things a doddle

Can't see anything specific.

Can I just uninstall the whole graphics card? Or will that strawberry float things up even further.

I really have no idea whats happened as it was working fine 2 days ago, then forces me to update NVIDIA driver and now I can't play games.

Before trying that, download an older driver from the site. When you install it, I think there is a custom option. Pick that and then there is some option like clean install (or something). Actually, that might be a check box before choosing the custom option, you'll have to check.

Assuming you have on board graphics (so you can revert to that temporarily if need be), go to device manager (if the above doesn't work), right click the card under display adapter and uninstall. If it doesn't try to reinstall automatically, reboot and see if it downloads and installs a driver at restart.

Doesn't seem to give me the option to customise my install. Just goes through the process and fails again, with the popup saying random things aren't installed.

have you actually done the 2nd thing DH said?
i dont mean to be patronising but a lot of PC errors are extremely literal - try going through one troubleshooting step at a time, v. methodically.

Not yet. I did the first thing he said, which was to try installing an older driver and choosing to custom install.

I see custom install when i use gforce experience, bit I've never tried to install an old driver. Maybe uninstall the driver manually before you install the downloaded one?

Yeah, gonna have another proper look after football finishes. Online people were saying to do a windows reinstall. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

I'm considering making an upgrade as I'm now starting to struggle playing games at high settings while maintaining a high fps. My current specs are:

Motherboard - Gigabyte Z87-HD3
Processor - Intel Core i5-4670K @ 3.40GHz
8GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 770

Would upgrading to a GTX 970 be a good decision? I believe the rest of my specs can support this option but not sure how much of an improvement or future proof it'll be.

looking at that - and i5 processor, 8gb of ram - gpu upgrade is the logical step for sure.
just to confirm - what games are giving you trouble?

I'm also curious - your CPU looks reasonable and your GPU is much better than my 750ti. What games are giving you trouble and at what resolution?

Total War Warhammer is the big one. I had a large battle in an elven forest yesterday and the FPS drop was horrendous. Made the battle almost unplayable. I run all my games at 1920 x 1080. I guess I'm not having too much trouble really, just some of the more recent games I'd like to be able to bump up the graphical settings a bit more like RotTombRaider, GTA V, Dead Rising, Hitman and a few others.

if you turn down the graphics details such as texture detail/shadows right down how much of a difference does it make to the fps?

While the CPU will be more of a factor in a strategy game I would still guess the GPU is the weakest link here. I'd only get a 970 if you can find it for a decent price below a 480 or 1060, the 480 in particular has had some amazing deals fairly recently.

I will try that next time I'm on the PC. If it does turn out that a CPU upgrade would yield better results, I assume I won't really go wrong with an i7 of any type? Funding being the only real restraint?

Oh and Doom was another one that made me start considering upgrades. It seems to start off running well but after a long session or entering new levels it begins to stutter.

Amazon has the MSI 1060 up for £220 which is very tempting.

The sort of problems you are complaining about (stuttering, long loading times) might not be the CPU or GPU but maybe the RAM or HDD.

You would get problems from the start if it was CPU or GPU (unless perhaps one of them is overheating).

Tried that but nothing still. I don't know whether something has happened to muddle up old versions I had or what. I can't even open Geforce Experience. It's there in the bottom right, but opening does nothing. I tried to uninstall and it says it isn't there.

Same gooseberry fool saying

PhysX System software
3d vision controller driver
HD audio driver
nview
graphics driver
NVIDIA gf experience
3D vision driver

all not installed.

I want to get rid of anything NVIDIA related and start again from scratch, but not sure if that may cause further problems.

Uninstalled driver but I guess there is still gooseberry fool on the PC that is causing issues.
