Does anyone know why my USB transfer speed would dip so dramatically? It starts off at around 15MBs and then crashes to around 6-7, meaning things take ages to transfer.

My Micro SD card will not format, and I can't delete anything off of it, or add anything on it. I've tried going the normal route through my computer as well as using DiskPart but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions as to what I can do?

For DiskPart I selected the partition and then used the command:

format fs=recommended

It ran to 100% but then after said that it encountered an error.

Do you have another USB port you can try?

Yes?

If you can't do it through your phone or PC, time to buy a new card.

Try this should do the trick, I use it when I have partitions windows can't see from using SD cards in Raspberry Pi's

Photorec is magic for recovering flash memory.

Dudes, what the hell's going on with GPUs right now? They all seem to be way over RRP or just out of stock. Bad time to buy?

PC parts have been getting harder & harder to buy at a decent price since about late June last year. Can't imagine why. ;)

Yes yes, we all had to eat a gooseberry fool sandwich since the currency tanked. This is particularly bad though.

It ran and said it formatted but then when I checked all the data was still there. Seems like the card is borked :(

I was very surprised buying a card for a my mother that there are literally no £70-90 options that are good like there used to be around 2008, to get something half decent it's more like £150. E.g. GeForce 7600GT versus 7800GTX, the equivalent tier is really expensive.

Maybe it's also to do with literally very Intel machine having integrated graphics?

GPUs are still over priced from another bubble in online currency mining. Should be over soon enough.

Look at this GTX 1070.

It was down to £310 just 2 months ago. Now it's £470. That's strawberry floating nuts.

Yeah they seem to have gone doolally. My girlfriend was considering getting a 1070 and a Vive at some point, but I checked the prices and couldn't believe how much they were.

I got a GTX 960 as a kind of stopgap almost 2 years ago, but with how much newer cards have shot up in price and how bloody well it's performing it's turned into the best £165 I ever spent.

Doesn't the ordinary 1050 kind of fit that bill. Can be had for (just) under £100.

Looking for recommendations for a desk Mic, can't be arsed using my clip mic and don't want a full headset as I just use my N/C headphones.

On the flip side; Also looking for earphones with a decent inline mic for work calls (mobile and laptop) - preferably blutooth that I can pair with my mobile and laptop but I realise this might be the equivalent of looking for a unicorn.

This post is exempt from the No Context Thread.

I'm considering getting this monitor

https://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-23MP68VQ-23-Inch-Class-Monitor/dp/B01F1PSHVW/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1502895984&sr=1-2

Are there better options available in the same size and budget range?

Is there any way of boosting the performance of a PC that is really struggling? That HP laptop I bought as a temp substitute earlier this year is now proving to be a bit of a pain in the arse. Sometimes it doesn't even have the power to run YouTube video properly, and it can't multitask at all. It's basic to the extreme, but it's now rather frustrating.
