And another rumour today of no new surface book. Hmm.

Edit, seems the track pad is pants and the pen has lag. Damn.

I'll give it a little bit of time, but a 15" inch laptop with an i7, 4k screen, dedicated graphics, pen included, 500GB SSD and looks nice is bloody tempting.

I got the laptop, typing on it right now. It's very, very nice. It's odd, as a laptop it feels like it's just regular sized, but rotate it around so it's like a tablet and use it for drawing and it feels strawberry floating huge, in a good way. Pen input is really responsive, palm rejection works great. Most applications work with a 4k screen right away, although one or two have a few issues with looking a little "fuzzy" like the upsacalling isn't working as intended, but certainly not a deal breaker. I had to configure the track pad a bit to my liking, such as scroll speed and making it so only actual "clicks" of the track pad count as a mouse click rather than just a press, but I'm happy with it now. HP software was instantly uninstalled, and was easy to do so. It uses windows hello which I needed to configure so that it works every time but now it's unobtrusive so fine. Not really done anything to put it through it's paces yet, just been setting it up and installing stuff mainly. That new electronics smell. :datass:

Windows update woes:

Just done a Windows update, restarted, and now it's hung on this screen:

40 mins and counting now. Most help articles talk about it hanging on the downloading screen. Anyone got any thoughts?

Happened to me and I ultimately had to hard reset. There isn't much else you can do.

My pc has been acting up in a few odd ways recently. My defrag program says a thing called FAT 32 needs repairing. I have no clue what I should do to repair it.

Couple of questions to get started.

What OS are you on?
What defrag program did you use?
If you right click the C: drive in My Computer/Computer/Windows Explorer what File System does it say it is using?

Surely that's an extra hard drive or external hard drive, nobody formats a hard disk as FAT-32 for another reason.

Try using the one in Windows as it will do the job. Under properties of the C: drive under the tools tab you should be able to start it (if you are on SSDs you dont need defrag). Under there is also error checking, run that and tell it to check and repair, it will make you reboot do that and let it do its thang.

None of it is working, the thing (that my computer knows as system Z:) will not respond to anything I try on it be it error scans or attempts to defrag.

sound like you may need a new drive.

Grab a copy of Acronis Drive monitor (its free), it should give you some details about disk health from a more hardware level,

Interesting, in which case a defrag is a pointless exercise as you don't defrag SSDs. (Sorry didn't realise it was an SSD).

I wouldn't worry about the defrag program saying stuff, as as I say it is pointless and 10 handles that stuff on its own now you just need to let it do its own thing.

What odd stuff has been happening.

Sometimes the command prompt window will appear for like half a second for no reason, this happens like once a day.

Sometimes that is something perfectly innocent that is running as part of maintaining some legit software, and is made to run so fast, it doesn't get in the way.

From what you've posted at this point, I wouldn't worry too much.

Z: sounds like a recovery partition - did you build or buy this computer?

Okay, so my computer is giving me a migraine today.

This morning, AVG kept experiencing an error with the Internet Security, and everything online was blocked. Eventually we figured out that repairing the thing was what was needed, we restarted the computer for the millionth time and things were looking good.

Now, however, the wired Ethernet adapter for the machine won't work at all - some problem with the driver, so it says. Windows Diagnostics won't fix it, resetting the winsock whatever won't work, uninstalling the adapter from Device Manager and rebooting didn't work. I'm at a loss. I don't need the hassle of buying and fitting a new Mobo.

I just want a weekend where nothing strawberry floats up. Help?

Edit: Turns out, after some frantic phone searching, that it was the AVG network filter driver in the Ethernet connection settings. Uninstalled it and boom! Internet restored. :toot:

Yeah it isn't needed and is just gooseberry fool.

If you really want something other than Defender (which is perfectly fine and has been since the Security Essential days in W7) get Sophos Home.
