Perhaps this should be in ask the forum but I'm going to word this in such a way so I'm hopefully given a pass.

After enjoying organising the work's World Cup sweepstake, I've decided to get busy organising something similar for the upcoming premier league season. The WC sweep went down really well because I had a range of prizes that rewarded more than just the winner which meant you weren't writing off your chances when you pull out the average (Greece) or the awful (Honduras) and got people engaging with the competition and the World Cup when they might not normally follow football.

I had a prize for the winner, runner up, golden boot, best goal as picked by the Motd crew, worst team and filthiest team with the prize fund split fairly evenly.

So with the premier league I'm looking to expand this format. I'll be collecting £10 a head for a £200 prize fund with a more refined idea of sharing the winnings. I think I'll be keeping all of the WC categories but adding a few more to make it a better fit for the premier league and the nine months it lasts. I want to keep people engaged with it so a couple of ideas I've had include adding a prize for the first managerial sacking/resignation/death and a prize for the quickest goal which I'll keep updated on a notice board as this will probably go down several times through the season. I'd be very grateful for any pointers.

Phew! The team that just misses relegation
Not again! The team that just misses champions league football
The Ultimate Challenge The team that beats Stoke on a rainy day at the Britannia stadium. If no-one manages this, the award goes to Stoke

When you say golden boot do you mean the team that scores the most goals, or the player who finishes top scorer (and thus whoever has the team he plays for, wins this prize)? I reckon for the PL season you'd be more likely to get the winner of the top scorer playing for a top team so your colleague would be in line for a prize anyway, unlike at the WC where the unbalanced nature of the tournament and its short length means it's not usually the winning team that boasts the top scorer. Your other categories sound good though. (I'm assuming the 'worst team' in a PL season would be the one that finishes bottom!)

A decent one to do might be most goals shipped in one game - it's the booby prize we've got on for our WC sweepstake at the moment, so unless there's a big shock in store for one of the remaining four games, there'll be a coin tossed between the guy who got Spain and the bloke who picked Switzerland. The good thing about this one is it'll keep people's attention throughout the season, even if they don't really care about football - you don't need any prior specialist knowledge about the subject to check the weekend's results and spot the biggest number so far.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Yes, by top scorer, I mean the top scoring player with the prize going to the person who has the club he plays for. I like the idea for the biggest drubbing prize which fits with my idea for updating the competition and rewarding the awful as well as the great. My ultimate aim is to stop people rolling their eyes if they pull a Villa. Every team in theory should be in contention for something and not just keeping their fingers crossed for Chelsea or City.

Love the idea for naming the prizes too.. As an Arsenal fan I'm all too aware of the horrors that a weather affected game at the Brittannia holds  but it might be a bit tricky to measure. I think I'll be going for ten prizes in total.
