Has anyone had any issues with their cat using places other than the litter box to go to the toilet? Twice in the last week ours has decided to do it. The first time we think she was spooked in the bathroom and ran outside mid-crap, but she’s since done it again while we’ve been in London. How do we curb this before it becomes a proper issue?

It can be stress related, I had a previous cat do it near an apartment door but it turned out to be because our neighbours got a dog.

Vet suggested she was using it to mark territory and stress of being able to smell the dog.

I have not been a cat owner for very long but I had that problem a couple of weeks ago, I purchased extra litter trays and make sure that they get the poop picked out of them several times a day and completely emptied and cleaned every 2/3 days, since then I have not had any problems, my cats are house cats and at the moment have no access to the outside (I am building an aviary) so will probably use the litter trays more than your cat
