The idea that games released more than a few years (or any time really) ago are somehow now made unworthy by current standards just doesn't make any sense at all.

A whole spectrum of quality games from terrible to amazing have always been released, the best of those are just as good now as they were then, so why shouldn't similar styles of games be being made right now. Its not as if all of the games that could ever have been made for say the SNES got made, so why wouldn't you want more amazing quality SNES-like games to be made if they could be?

Of course that isn't to say that all games made in a style that could have been made for an older platform will be good, but judge them on their merits, not some misplaced idea of what a game in 2014 should be.

So unless it has cutting edge triple A blockbuster visuals don't bother releasing it on the system at all? Ludicrous.

The point is, the game could be handled on a PS1 and I didn't buy a PS4 to play PS1 games. Clearly I am in a minority.

Nope. I agree. Far too many PS4 indie games which belong in 1998

How is more choice and variety a bad thing though? The indie games aren't taking away from the bigger titles, at the very least they help keep the system relevant in between the milestone releases.

Choice isn't a bad thing, but we don't seem to get it. PSN+ offerings on the PS4 seem to be limited to ports of games previously on the PS3 and PSV or retro games.

Not unworthy, but if I want to play them I'd keep an older console.

I expanded my answer, I think this goes to the heart of the objection to your point of view...

Its not as if all of the games that could ever have been made for say the SNES got made, so why wouldn't you want more amazing quality SNES-like games to be made if they could be?

Ever on the lookout for a bargain, I noticed that the digital version of Destiny works out to be about £36 on the US PSN store.

I have a US account set up already and know that apps and games can be played cross account on the same system, but does anyone know if playing online is affected at all? (i.e. will I run into any issues trying to play a US version of the game logging on via my UK account?)

On the PS1/GBC.

So every developer should make games with graphics only possible on contemporary hardware? That would kill off a lot of indie games with great ideas that aren't seen in AAA games. It would also mean that there would only be a lot fewer games available which doesn't really further your cause. It's not like these games detract from the development of those AAA games you want.

This was talked about during the time TLoU Remastered hit and apparently it doesn't affect the MP at all.

HOW DO YOU PLAY ONLINE!?!?

Are you asking how would I play online without a PS+ sub? I don't and so it isn't a issue for me.

No, but the obsession with pixelated graphics is becoming a bore. I just want something neater, such as Calling all cars. Maybe this is an age thing, people who have been playing games a long time don't want to return to 80s style graphics on the latest machines.

I can see where DH is coming from, but I think his frustration is entirely symptomatic of the lack of AAA titles that have come out via Plus.

I have been a very staunch supporter of Plus, and I always knew it'd be dry for the first year, PS4-wise. However, it's starting to feel like it's been a long year.

To me, it seems there have been a lot of games that should basically be good Vita titles, used as filler for the PS4 content slots. I don't dislike these, but it's getting a bit tedious now.

On the flipside, I am still stupidly excited about Hyperlight Drifter, though AFAIK we still don't have a release date for that.

Hyperlight Drifter, lest we forget:

Ah great, thanks. I'm guessing that trophies will add to my profile ok if I'm playing it through my UK account.

What's the catch with using a US account then? All seems rather nice with titles being cheaper and the like, too good to be true?

The catch is that switching accounts on Vita is a ball ache, so buying on US PSN makes it difficult to take advantage of Cross Buy.

DLC isn't region free either, so you have to make sure you buy everything else from the US store as well.

I've been playing games a long time and my favourite game of the year so far is Shovel Knight. I enjoy games based on whether they're good games, as anyone who calls themselves a gamer should.
