So... there is a bit of a rumpus kicking off amongst Elder Scrolls Online players as the current Crowns (in-game currency) sale is not as lavish on PS4 as it is on PC and XBO. Basically, the cost of the biggest pack has been reduced by 40% on those platforms, but only 29% on the PS4.

Bethesda have just posted the reason on their ESO forum but it is quite odd:

When we have sales, retailer discounts can vary by platform, company, purchase location and exchange rate. Ultimately, we can recommend pricing but retail prices are set by the retailer, not the publisher or developer. We often don't learn what the final retailer pricing will be until it's live, as in this case.

Click for source.

This is complete BS, isn't it? I cannot believe that Sony sets the PS Store price of software on behalf of the publisher... and that the publisher only finds out the price once it has gone live  . Come on, Bethesda - sort this issue out!

I don't normally do so but, uhm... err... I have been known to do so for ESO :shifty: .

For an MMO I honestly don't see it as that bad.
A lot of people get a lot of fun and playtime out of the games and don't mind spending a few quid to get a rare or exotic item without having to grind for it and as long as it isn't a required item for a quest or something overpowered I see no problem.
Destiny 2 will be a good example where I have no interest in anything from the in game shop but many will so I don't see the harm in them being allowed to buy stuff I don't care about.

On the ESO forums, it has been reported that Sony has responded to queries about the lower percentage reductions in the PS Store than for other formats:

Unfortunately we are unable to comment on the pricing of third party companies and companies not run by PlayStation.

So Bethesda is blaming Sony and Sony is saying it's nothing to do with them. I guess prices must magically set themselves on the PS Store  :fp: .

Just a guess but I'd imagine the margins are different (Sony takes a bigger cut perhaps).

Don't quite understand how Bethesda could 'not learn the final retailer pricing till it's live' though. That surely makes no sense.

Mad tempted to get Elite whilst it's only £14, anyone else bitten?

I was really tempted to get it at launch, Preezy, but after reading quite a few reviews I held off. It seems that it is a very unwelcoming game to get into; more slog than enjoyment. Even at this lower price I elected to hold off and stick with No Man's Sky.

Was tempted but picked up the MUA twin pack instead. Played some of MUA1 yesterday with my kid, still so much fun.

I know what you mean about the unwelcoming start, but I'm hoping that my experience from playing it when it first came out on PC will stand me in good stead for the console version. I just want a chilled space trucking experience on my plasma, and this is definitely the game to scratch that very specific itch.

First Light has not Second Son.

First Light was waaaay better. Really felt like that should have been the main game rather than Second Son and its Troy Baker-by-numbers main character.

Bonkers to think we still don't know what Sucker Punch's next full game is.
