The new TCRT made me realise that we are long overdue a new politics thread. And it might stop us chatting about football like the old one. ;)

Rejected titles for this thread:

Lib Dem or Die Hard
Live May or Die Corbyn
Live Free or Vote Tory
Vote Labour or Get DUP
Live UKIP or Just Die Out And Vanish Once Nigel Leaves

Politics away!

I'm still not convinced that Man United will be able to sufficiently strengthen during this transfer window, there just aren't that many top quality players available. Give Shaw an extended chance at LB, bring back Pereira from Valencia and give Rashford/Martial a chance up top in some of the less-crucial games to lighten Lukaku's load.

Because Wayne iz da bestest.

It’s named after Dan Rooney, who was head of the NFL’s diversity committee (thank you Wikipedia).

Does anyone else play Fortnite and have the snowflake skin for their umbrella? At the start of the game I get the onscreen prompt to "Deploy snowflake" and it has yet to stop amusing me every time

Tim Farron: I was foolish to say gay sex isn't a sin

Former leader of the Liberal Democrats, Tim Farron has spoken of his "regret" at bowing to pressure he felt to say homosexual sex is not sinful.

The Christian politician also voiced frustration that his views on sexuality distracted attention away from the Lib Dem's General Election campaigning last year.

Speaking exclusively with Premier's Inspirational Breakfast presenters John Pantry and Rosie Wright, he said: "The bottom line is, of course, I did [feel pressured] and there are things - including that - that I said that I regret.

"All they wanted to do is talk about my Christian beliefs and what they actually meant.

"Foolishly and wrongly, [I] attempted to push it away by giving an answer that, frankly, was not right."

Tim Farron also spoke of feeling "isolated" during the controversy surrounding his views but he also acknowledged the support of people praying for him.

He said: "I know that others were praying for me but there is a sense in which I was isolated.

"I had a wonderful team around me at HQ but with one exception, there were no Christians; it was not their fault they didn't understand the issue."

I respected Farron for being a truly democratic leader in that he seemingly put the opinions of his party and those he represented above his own personal beliefs. He has always voted in favour of gay marriage etc. has he not?

From the interviews with him on this subject I always got the impression that he is one of those religious types who believe everyone is sinful for various reasons, and had a strange (to me) specific understanding of "sin" that is not the same as saying "I think this is wrong". I never got the impression he was anti-gay rights in anything other than this specifically worded question (i.e. referring to sin). The press crucified him for it, but a better judge of character would have been to ask him about gay rights in a non religious context. I think he probably would have appeared much more liberal and unconflicted then. Please correct me if I'm wrong

I don’t think the Lib Dem’s would have done very well at the election anyway but Farron certainly didn’t help.

If he thinks gay sex is s sin then he’s in the wrong party.

If he thinks gay sex is not a sin then he’s a strawberry floating idiot for not just saying it outright.
