In a pathetic attempt at drumming up anti-EU support Michael Gove claimed that EU rules may prevent the UK from doing anything to ban single use plastic straws.

The response from the EU?

Yet more proof Gove is just talking out of his arse and scaremongering without any idea what he's talking about.

Just to add to this "Gove is talking out of his arse" narrative, Scotland were already planning to ban plastic straws.

Michael Gove, not as gooseberry fool as Chris Grayling.

The very epitome of damning with faint praise.

I was just called a communist on Facebook for being in support of the opt-out organ donation policy. Strange times we are living in.

I've never seen the big deal about organ donation, personally. You're, well, dead. You're either going to be set on fire or rot in the ground. May as well do some good with it beforehand if possible.

That's unusual, when it comes to politics, people usually just end up calling each other nazis.

The state would own your organs so yes it is a communist policy.

No they wouldn’t, you have the option of opting out and your family could say no even if you haven’t opted out.

You don't like it, you just opt out. I don't understand what people are getting upset about. You still have a choice.

It would be fairly easy to opt out as well just fill in a form and you wouldn't even has to speak to anyone about it.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

I think there's a perception/concern/urban myth that doctors won't work so hard to save your life if you're an organ donor because they want you to due for your organs.

I don’t understand that argument, why would doctors let somebody die so that somebody else doesn’t die?

Because they're all in a big conspiracy for government funding.

I don't understand it, but it's a reason I've seen a few times for people not wanting to be organ donors.

Given that doctors are evaluated on their performance and can even lose their career for letting a patient die from bad practice I fail to see much incentive. If doctor wants to progress, gain prestige and admiration then the best way to do it would be to have as close to a 100% survival rate as possible.
