On the actually subject in hand. I think that faith based schools damage society by stopping people integrating. It provides a situation that helps groups like Britain First and Isis recruit impressionable minds. If we want to unify society we have to ban faith schools.

If he could come down and reverse Brexit that would probably make me feel a bit better.

I'd like to see the confusion from the this-is-a-Christian-country brigade if they found out God is remoaner.

This subject grinds my gears. As I see it, it is very simple.

If parents want to clog the minds of their children with religious nonsense, then they are free to do so after school or at weekends. But it should not be happening in school.

I agree with this. But how you would actually manage to ban them is beyond me.

Thing is, you can say ban faith schools as a solution, but in the real world that is never ever going to happen.

It’s never going to happen but there is no chance of change if everyone just ignores it.

Parents are always going to inflict their morals/religion on their kids, there is no way of getting away from that. The question is whether tax payers money should be spent on reinforcing those beliefs. Personally I don’t think it should, if you want your kids educated in a religious way then you (or the Church or whatever) should have to pay for it yourself.

I agree Moggy, but I would image that the C of E schools would argue that that's the official state religion so should get special treatment.

Personally I'd ban them all and then ship all the God Squad to Monster Island.

Like I said I don't think outright banning faith schools is the best idea, but I do think they should receive no state funding. If they had to fund themselves entirely they'd probably just die off naturally or turn to the government and be told they have to become state schools to receive funding.

That seems like the most workable option to me.

It is crazy how much of a hold on this country religion still has. We have religious state schools, our head of state is also the head of the state religion and religious figures are still automatically given entry to our second legislative chamber.

Basically we are Iran.

And yet we are ruled by it. How many atheist Prime Ministers have we had? How many of the cabinet say they are not religious?

I'm just saying in the grand scheme of things it could be a whole lot more religious! I was more disagreeing we are Iran, thats just hyperbole.

Of course it was hyperbole, strawberry float me do you actually think I was seriously suggesting that we were exactly the same as Iran? :fp:

But the fact remains that our head of state is a hereditary Queen who is also the head of the Church. Bishops are automatically appointed to one of our legislative chambers. Our state funds religious schools and insists on acts of worship for non-religious state schools.

The people might not be very religious anymore, but religion is deeply imbedded in the hierarchy and running of this country.

That’s just hyperbole, Theresa May is not an Ayatollah and would never issue a fatwa.
