Eradicate 'avoidable' plastic waste by 2042? Is that supposed to sound good? I'll be nearly 60 by then, lol.

YouGov:

The older you get, and the more Right you go, the more likely you are to disagree with the decision. Country is divided on the matter though.

In other words Daily Mail newspaper readership: over 50, though predominantly 65+, who vote UKIP or Conservative.

It's such a non-story. Either train companies should be forced to sell every single newspaper, or they should be allowed to decide for themselves whether they sell it or not.

If they ban people reading it, then you might have an actual controversy.

For whatever reason, it's been politicised by Virgin Trains themselves. They're making a point with it, though in reality it's no different to any other agreement that is is place (whether in writing like, say, a free copy of The Times in Waitrose, Men's Health in gyms, or Marks and Spencer food onboard British Airways) or by chance (magazines in doctor's waiting rooms).

All they did was announce that they were no longer going to distribute the Daily Mail as it doesn't reflect their values.

If the Daily Mail doesn't like that, then they could always try and be a normal newspaper and not a hate filled rag that promotes xenophobia and homophobia.

I think that would be true if they were stocking all newspapers, but they're only stocking 3 (Times, FT, Mirror) and a handful of magazines. They could theoretically issue a statement for everything. It appears to me more of an opportunity to make a point of slagging off the DM when a decision was already made at some point to trim down their onboard offerings.

That's a rubbish poll question, I wouldn't want to pick any of the three options. Where is "don't care" or "I assign no moral value to the choice of newspaper sold by a train company stop asking me questions"

It seems to me like the decision to stop selling it was a purely financial/business one, 70 copies a day must have been something like 5% of the number of copies they were buying in every day and is probably less than some corner shops can shift out each day, but then someone in the marketing department had a brilliant idea to spin it into a politically motivated decision for PR reasons.

If anybody deserves a slagging off, it is the DM.

Virgin Trains are a train company not a newsagent. It's completely up to them if they sell newspapers and only becomes a freedom of speech issue if they ban people from bringing certain papers onboard.

It's a complete non-story that has been whipped up by right wing snowflakes that want to look like they are the poor unheard minority that everyone is picking on.

I'm sure 99% of Virgin Train customers won't even give a gooseberry fool. I can count the number of people I see reading paid-for newspapers during the week on one hand. Everyone is either reading the Metro and Evening Standard, a book, or on their phones, laptops and tablets. While eating.

So in other words, the only strawberry floaters whining about this don't even have to pay for their train tickets anymore anyway.

On Tuesday 68 senior A&E doctors wrote to May to explain that people are dying prematurely in corridors because the NHS is chronically underfunded.
https://www.theguardian.com/society/201 ... heresa-may

Today May is still ignoring any serious discussion and blaming it on winter flu catching the (best ever prepared) NHS by surprise.

Or start their own train service and stock nothing but the DM. They could call it the Daily Rail.

Hospitals have run out of beds and can no longer cope, bosses are warning.

Reports have emerged since Christmas of patients being left for hours on trolleys in corridors and stuck in ambulances as A&E teams struggle.

Chris Hopson, of NHS Providers, said hospitals were now unsafe and over-crowded and the government should rethink its policies.

But ministers say plans are in place to help the health service cope, despite mounting evidence of growing pressures.
Last week the BBC reported that thousands of ambulances had been left stuck outside Accident and Emergency departments over the winter because there were no staff available to receive their patients.

Inside A&E patients have complained of being left in waiting rooms and corridors for hours as staff struggle to free up beds.

Latest figures show that hospitals in England are well above the 85% bed occupancy rate considered to be safe to ensure beds are ready when they are needed.

I had to visit both Royal Brompton and St. George's over the festive period in London and both times I had to walk past numerous seriously ill looking people on trolleys left in a corridor. Sickening, but that's the way the Tories want it.

One May makes a decision or settles on an opinion, she seemingly sticks to it regardless of any further evidence presented or arguments made. It happened with the snooper's charter and it's happening now with the NHS.

From what I have read, it appears she likes to always make the final decision, and once its made that's that. It kind of matches with the "Strong and Stable" slogan - but it's a terrible way for a leader to lead.

id like to know how Conservative voters can justify the way the NHS is being run by the government, considering that we knew the plan was to underfund all along.

"Those strawberry floating lazy doctors and nurses and paramedics. Spending years training to save lives, then working long hours to save lives, then expecting to be paid a reasonable wage so they can live comfortably in the limited time they spend at home when not out saving lives. What a bunch of gross deplorable monsters."
