I have personal experience and the whole thing is just an impossible situation.

KK isn’t saying Twitter should be able to automatically spot abuse. The point of this story is that the abuse was reported, Twitter investigated and then Twitter decided there was no breach to its rules.

I also have personal experience. I recently reported an account that was posting racial abuse directed at me and my 2 year old son. Twitter decided there was no violation of the rules. I appealed and they again decided no violation, despite the account in question being full of horrible abuse.

I don’t have the fame needed to publicly shame them into action, but they really need to sort themselves out.

More evidence that Twitter is stupid and everyone should delete their accounts.

There’s nothing wrong with Twitter as a platform. It’s a great way of keeping up with news, movies, TV shows, bands and on people/stories that you have an interest in. Whether that is somebody like the Secret Barrister who explains complex legal situations in an easy to understand way, or your favourite band announcing a tour, Twitter gets the information to you fast and easy.

The problem (and it’s the same for Facebook) are the sewer dwelling humans that use it, the bots that infest it and, most importantly, the lack of action from the humans that run it.

It is a bit different on facebook, though, FB is more targeted and extension of what they are doing in public more, whereas twitter is more general.

More definitely should be done by the networks but what they should do or how to do I don't know, it's a mammoth task and short of a bot thing reading everything and blocking I don't know how you could effectively tackle the issue. especially as the second they do heaps will leave as "FAXEBOOK IS CENSORING PEOPLE AND DELETING ANYTHING THEY DONT LIKE".

Really people should just not be banana splits but apparently that's impossible.

I don’t think anybody expects Twitter to be able to magically get rid of the arseholes.

But they could ban accounts that are tweeting abuse when they get reported.

True true especially if the account clearly has a history of doing it.

I actually think that once you get stuck in and come down hard on the racists they'd move off the platform.

That sounds like a joke but it's actually completely true.

Because they're stealing that job from a proper British person and everyone knows that all unemployed British people are only unemployed because immigrants stole all the jobs

We've just got to start training the unemployed as Doctors and nurses and the NHS will be saved.

I'd imagine that if you're looking to work here the employer would want to know that they're not employing somebody who's here illegally.

I thought that if you're not a citizen of a country then showing proof that you're there legally and have a right to work was a pretty standard thing, no?
