I'm expecting as with many votes so far the least progressive side to win so I imagine they will be keeping the ban because the world is so very strawberry floated.

It’s crazy that it is expected to be close. 2018 and there are still people in the world that think women should be forced to give birth. :dread:

Hopefully the young and liberal people in Ireland get themselves out to vote, as we saw with Brexit and Trump, the old and conservative voters will get themselves out!

A lot of young expats are returnin home to vote Yes, they voted to legalise same sex marriage by a large margin so hopefully that's set the trend.

I just feel like we're living in a nightmare world, so I fully expect no to win. Although I hope I'm wrong.

In our nightmare world they won’t just say no, they’ll also vote in direct rule from the Pope. ;)

It'll give us a good chance to laugh at Ireland until we're subsumed into to the new Russian Republic.

I made a prediction that Yes would win with 60-65% a few days ago. I've sort of being read and watching programmes about this issue the last few nights. And I may have underestimated how divisive this truly is. I'm not sure what will happen now.

The whole debate has went kind of toxic in some aspects.

What's the difference between this and the marriage equality referendum in 2015

Yes 62.07
No 37.93

It was a very clear Yes back then, and the same demographics seem to be aligning their voting intentions this time.

I think it's that some people see this as openly advocating murder. The whole debate seems to be much more divisive as a result.

I hope it does mirror that result, definitely.

I am actually a bit worried about violence in the event if a yes vote.
I'd certainly hope it is a yes, but I don't think it's going to be a remotely smooth transition.
