You could say that he was really in the thick of it.

 My original line to go with that post: I really need to get around to watching The Thick of It.

BBC Panorama: Police Under Pressure worth watching on iPlayer, looking at falling police numbers and rising crime.

Caught most of it last night on the TV, it felt like a Judge Dredd prequel in parts, what with the limited capacity to deal with crime and only responding to a small percentage :dread:

I looked at my street and surrounding area and noticed that nothing has been solved for 2 years. Everything is either “under investigation” or case closed, “no suspect identified”.

More people have fitted HD cameras and ADT alarms down my street.

My heart bleeds for the bookies. :fp:

William Hill only made £300 million in profit in 2017 - how will they cope if that halves like they're saying it will.
Better close those stores and put people out of work rather than risk lower dividends for the shareholders.

Commons Speaker John Bercow has acknowledged that "strong and differing views were expressed" in the House of Commons, after claims he called a cabinet minister "a stupid woman".

The Daily Telegraph reported he made the comments about Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom under his breath.

Mr Bercow's office said it would not comment on "suggested accounts of private conversations".

No 10 said the remarks, if proven to be true, would be "unacceptable".

Downing Street said that if an official complaint was made, it should be properly investigated.

Mrs Leadsom said, in her role as the government's representative in Parliament, she was focused on ensuring that "anyone who is bullied or treated unfairly" was "able to come forward and have their concerns and complaints dealt with in a rigorous and fair manner".

Following the alleged incident after prime minister’s questions on Wednesday afternoon, one unnamed MP who claimed they caught Mr Bercow’s aside told the Daily Telegraph: “He said ‘stupid woman’ and went on to say either ‘f****** useless or f****** outrageous.

Don’t like him at all, but...she is bloody stupid. I think we all found that out when she ran for the PM job.

She was trying to run into the time that had been allocated for Labour to discuss Grenfell.

Calling her stupid isn't even that nasty as far as insults go. They are clearly just gunning for Bercow.

Bercow does sound like a bullying twat.

But you are right, Leadsom is a bloody stupid woman. You'd think that she would be better at this seeing as she is a mother.

It's not Bercow's place to tell her that though, as speaker he should be above throwing insults around.

He should be.

But she is a bloody stupid woman.

Imagine dealing with them all on a daily basis. You have spent the whole day listening to May and Corbyn talk shite, Gove has just winked at you, Johnson is telling you about piccaninnies, Cable’s banging on about the Lib Dems being relevant, Ed Miliband has asked where he can get a sandwich and then Leadsom comes over for a chat.

I am surprised Bercow didn’t call her a hell of a lot worse than just “bloody stupid woman”. ;)

strawberry float, it's so hard when you agree with the sentiment expressed...but yeah. Her being a woman has nothing to do with her stupidity and shouldn't have factored into his outburst. Bercow was a recalling a common sexist trope and an admonishment of intelligence intrinsically linked to gender. So definitely sexist.

He's not strawberry floating wrong though.

Come on, do you have to cry sexism about everything? If he'd called her a "stupid person" that would've presumably been fine on the sexism outrage scale, but because he called her what she actually is, i.e. a woman, it's suddenly sexist?

He was saying she is a woman who is stupid. That is not sexist.
It would only have been sexist if he was implying she was only stupid because she was a woman, which he clearly wasn't doing.

I was asked for an opinion. I gave one, and the reasoning behind it.

Fixed odds betting terminals aren't just bad for the gambling addict. They're great for criminals to easily and quickly launder large amounts of money. Very efficient method. Glad they've been reduced.
