As Rinks says, a bourbon is probably going to be a good bet. Irish whiskies have quite a bourbonesque quality in my opinion so maybe Jameson's or Bushmills? What's it for? If you're not massively fussed about it actually being whisky then Southern Comfort has vanilla in it according to Wikipedia.

I got a whisky from a restaurant a while back, I can't remember what it was but remember you could smell vanilla and I really liked it.

Okay, was thinking if you wanted something with vanilla to go in a cocktail Southern Comfort might work.

A couple of whiskies already mentioned are on there. Off that list I quite like Auchentoshan, had a bottle of that recently actually (sometimes it's on offer in Tesco), and I enjoyed Akashi when I had that too.

Try the AnCnoc (pronounced "A knock") 12 year old.
Has a nice honey & vanilla note to it. AnCnoc was my gateway whisky into whiskies. Easy to drink.

An alternative is Macallan Double Gold.
If the one you had was very vanilla-ery, it might have been this one. Almost has a taste like cinnamon spiced panacotta - I went through a bottle of this stuff over a weekend one Christmas a few year back.

I tried some Michter's Unblended American Whiskey in a liquor store at the weekend. It was rather tasty. Not the most complex I'm sure, but the flavours were there and it was very drinkable. I had a pleasant taste in my mouth long after I finished drinking it.

I always thought I hated whiskey but we had a bit of spare Xmas money lying around so dropped around £40 on the above. It's strawberry floating lovely, smokey and smooth and the aftertaste is sublime.

Having got through one of those half-size bottles of Jack Daniel's Honey (quite rapidly!) I'm taking the next step into the whisk(e)y world. Bought myself a half-size bottle of Jameson and a normal size bottle of Bushmills, which I've seen recommended here a fair bit.

Will try them both tonight, can't wait

Got the Auchentoshan in the end.

Can't really taste any vanilla in it but it's drinkable.

Quite like Jameson & Bushmills, far more drinkable than any Scottish whisky I've tried.

Get yourself some Blackbush (out of context thread here come) it's far nicer than the original bushmills and isn't overly expensive either

Jack Daniels seems to be getting reduced everywhere though, what’s going on?

Got a bottle of Laphroaig off the back of our wedding anniversary party. Last time I tasted it was 15 years ago when I bought a bottle for an ex and I strawberry floating hated it. Popped it open last night and...really enjoyed it. I didn't think I'd like the super peatiness of it but it was actually a lot smoother than I remember, even if the aftertaste does stick around like an unwanted housemate.

I can't help you with a specific vanilla-related-recommendation, but I got a bottle of Monkey Shoulder for Father's Day and it's a lovely Speyside

I'm going to treat myself to another bottle for my collection when I get paid - thinking of getting some Woodford Reserve as I'm keen to try a proper bourbon, anyone else had it?

I’ve just had a couple of bottles from Glenmorangie, I enjoyed it but fancied something a little different this time, hence why I asked about the vanilla flavoured ones as I thought they sounded nice and something different. I’ve seen a Jim Bean vanilla one so might just try that.

Try Eagle Rare bourbon if you want something different. Very smooth. It coats the inside of your mouth like butter.

I don’t like the sound of that. When a whisky has a subtle vanilla-like hint to it, it can be wonderful, but adding vanilla flavouring seems coarse.

I had a bottle a few years ago. Unfortunately I found it slightly disappointing. Maybe it was because I was expecting it to be great, and it was just a bit... ordinary.

Oh is that what the Jim Bean one is like? I was hoping it’d just be a subtle taste/hint of vanilla, nothing over the top.
