The Returned - French TV supernatural drama (Ch4)

Anyone see the first episode of this tonight on Ch4? :dread:

It's a Canal+ production and is, of course, in French (with English subtitles). It's a modern supernatural 8-parter - made in a cool, understated style - classy, but still very chilly and spookily disturbing. The perfect European antidote to all those endless US 'supernatural' TV series. The French know how to make something genuinely eerie; the sort of thing that gets right under your skin.

Recommended for fans of serious supernatural drama.

Thought the first half was gooseberry fool.

Then it got pretty decent.

Not impressed with it being called a zombie thriller though :fp:

Very slow but interesting enough.

my only problem so far...

Quite enjoyed it actually. The idea of madness, that we create a world when we can't bear to live in our own anymore with the old man was fantastic. Very slow but interested to see where they take it. Being beautifully shot and having a great soundtrack is just the icing on the cake.

When the bitch gets stabbed in the tunnel. Why didn't he rape her? What's the point otherwise.

Was she one of the people that died? Was he one of the people that died.

It seems to be based on the French film, They Came Back, which was interesting but flawed. Hopefully with more time it can do the premise justice. The Mogwai score was excellent at the very least.

This gets better and better. As soon as tonight's episode ended I was ready to watch the next; shame we've got to wait a week ! My partner really didn't really want to go and get the washing in after it finished tonight - well spooky !!

Channel 4 to broadcast The Returned series 2 in 2014

Channel 4 has confirmed it’ll broadcast the second series of The Returned next year.

The first series, which finished last night, was the first subtitled drama on Channel 4 for over 20 years, and attracted an average of 1.8million viewers and a 7.1% share each week.

The eight-part second series is currently in development with Haut et Court TV for Canal+, and will begin filming in early 2014 for an anticipated broadcast later in the year.

The series is created by Fabrice Gobert based on the 2004 feature film “Les Revenants” by Robin Campillo.

I saw this on DVD in Sainsburys at the weekend. It did mention C4 but didn't remember seeing it on TV. Might check this out on 4OD.

The opening 3 episodes aren't on 4OD, the 4th episode has only 1 day left as well.
