As for DLC, I imagine they'll go the same route as Dance Central, as 'legacy' DLC becomes available, it'll be free to unlock if you've already purchased it. Due to licensing problems I can't imagine they will be able to carry anything over, but I think we will get a lot. Not sure about changing platforms between Sony & Microsoft, hopefully they will find a way but I'm not overly optimistic on that front.

Its not Harmonix, its Sony and MS. The MS hardware from last gen does not work on this gen because they changed the hardware handshake gooseberry fool. Unless Hmx develop some sort of switch box (or bundle one of the dodgy chinese ones) then it probably wont happen.

Same. And considering all my DLC for RB is on 360 and I only have a PS4, I think I'll actually pass on a new Rock Band.

I'm in the same situation, though I know I'd still buy it.

I wish my 360 wasn't broken as I'm in the mood to play this again. It's been about 2.5 years since I last did. No idea if my guitar controller still works.

I'm prepared to buy new instruments because Microsoft and Sony. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Harmonix released an adaptor similar to the MIDI adapter they brought out for the professional MIDI instruments in Rock Bands 3, which would let you use previous gen equipment.

I'm expecting to lose half of my current DLC due to licences expiring (any song that was available to purchase but not anymore).

And I'm also prepared to buy an Xbox One just for this game. The DLC won't be cross platform compatible because Microsoft and Sony.

DLC is the deal breaker here. I have over 500 DLC songs on my hard drive and would not buy it all again.

Its less about the files themselves, and more the library. I couldnt give a gooseberry fool if I cant physically do a data transfer from the 360 to bone or PS4 - if they give me the full library (or as near as) without me having to pay for licenses again.

If they come out and say I will have to start my DLC collection again I will simply not buy the game.

I think I may have been misunderstood. I think they'll let us take over the majority of DLC they have released from 360 to One and PS3 to PS4. But they'll be no way the could do opposite consoles is what I meant for the people who have moved on to PS4 from 360.

For anyone that doesn't know, they've gradually been going through the DLC and relicensing the music from the beginning. For songs they couldn't relicense, the songs have been removed for purchase from the online store (although if you have purchased them previously you can still download and play these). I would imagine that these songs would not be available to carry over, everything else though should be safe, as long as the new game has 'Rock Band' in the title somewhere.

As a warning of expecting a Rock Band 4, it could be this Rock Band game (if it even exists) is something else entirely, like Rock Band Blitz, using only the brand and DLC.

But isn't it only the online character that is transferred? That is hosted and is accessible to Rockstar on their own servers

Harmonix will not be able to access which person bought 'X' song on 360/PS3, then pass that information on to Sony/Microsoft to credit an account on that platform with the right to download that song again.

If that makes sense.

I imagine that Harmonix have a dashboard for user IDs and the songs they own somewhere. They have to in order to deliver the content to you on your platform of choice in the first place.

I expect if they do offer cross platform DLC it'll be a one shot deal.

Surely it's Microsoft and Sony that hold that information. Harmonix pass them the content to host on their respective online stores.

Harmonix would have leaderboard information so they could link a score from a particular song to a User ID, but outside of that, knowing User 1 purchased DLC Pack 5 and User 2 purchased DLC Pack 2, that's all on Microsoft and Sony databases.

This is all based on the assumptions that A) MS/Sony have that information, B)They won't jump on an opportunity to rinse the gooseberry fool out of people all over again for both DLC and toy guitars because money. Both of these are amplified by lots of newer gamers who may have missed the plastic instrument hurricane the first time round.

To be fair, lack of cross-compatibility should have been a factor when you decided which new console to buy. It's pretty obvious that most content is unlikely to make the trip from one ship to another.

Hmx have been doing a number of surveys from series vets and players to determine what is and isnt workable going forwards. I can almost guarantee most respondants would have answered the same as us, that is, Im not buying the DLC again (which was asked).

I'm not very optimistic at all about DLC carrying over. If it did it would probably be 360 to Xbone and PS3 to PS4 only.

What platforms do the old regulars have now/are planning to get? It would never happen but I'd love to see cross-platform multplayer. Wouldn't want to miss out on the band reunion.

Hopefully there would be another MIDI adapter. I'd have to buy another drum module though as my kit doesn't have MIDI out. This game would end up being expensive for me. But it'd be worth it.

It really depends. If DLC ends up being transferable I'll get an XBone, if not a PS4.

Speculation at the moment, though it does seem to be leading to something. Interested to see where this goes.

I think, on balance, that I would probably buy an XBone to play this, regardless of DLC transfer. I would hope though that there's a way to download at least the on-disc songs from RB, RB2, RB3, LRB and RB:GD, minus the hold-out bands who clearly do not understand and never did understand how the plastic instrument genre, and modern life in general works. I'm looking directly at Ulrich, Hetfield, Hammett and Trujillo on that one, wankers that they are.
