Hola, 'Big guy called Ash' here (Thanks for that, Sefi
)
Firstly just want to thank BID0 and TigaSefi for their support of RCL, particularly TigaSefi for his shameless pimping of the event here and on other forums. Launching an event like this isn't the easiest thing in the world and word of mouth definitely works in our favour.
We're working to refine and improve the show each month. As an example for November we're adding an additional two Microphones for harmonies (total: 2 wireless, 1 wired by the keyboard), we've factored in a new Mixer for behind the scenes (the existing one is too large and heavy to be practical), as well as new DLC purchased over the next few weeks. This will include at the very least 'Ring of Fire' from this weeks Country Pack, as well as some songs we had requested from the back catalog. We'd like to get a new drum kit with the pro cymbal pack, but this will entirely depend on availability of the kit (or lack of availability as the case appears to be), and personal funds. We appreciate the offers of bringing in equipment, but here's the rub: we barely want to be liable for our own equipment, let alone anyone elses, the B:RB kit we have has taken a fair pasting the past two months and I'm suitably impressed with how well it has held up all things considered. Even that requires some physical repair work (broken stand connector) before this months.
I wouldn't want to expose anyone elses kit to that sort of punishment.
Also we're working our way through the process of registering ourselves as an actual business. We have two paying bookings waiting in the wings and these will help us pay for the Monthly public events greatly. As it is even with those kind enough to throw some change in the tip jar we still end up out of pocket every month. It'd be nice to potentially break even.
Herein lies some information I don't mind sharing with Yoshimi; Be very careful with anything that looks like you're charging people to play Rock Band. As has been discussed in great detail on the official RB forums, you can charge them for your time and expertise but if you start charging people to actually play the game you could invite a visit from some ugly men in suits. With careful wording and T&C I don't see any reason your plan shouldn't work and I wish you well with it. We're being very careful with regards to this ourselves as we want to become a legit business, not just for Rock Band nights, but for other potential gaming themed events. No DDR, mind.
As for numbers, I'm happy to share that the peak for night 1 was 37, which we sustained for a good length of time and was supplemented by people moving between us and the main bar upstairs. The peak for night 2 was 45, and as was pointed out this was late in the evening. It was a little disheartening to be that quiet for that long but thankfully it wasn't just us. The pub upstairs was pretty damned quiet too. It was nice for things to pick up at the end and we greatly appreciate BID0 & Co. giving up their last slot to the latecomer.
The capacity for the 'basement' is 60, and most Saturdays with nowt going on it rarely gets above 10 people down there... if that. We've gone down their on an evening and pretty much had the place to ourselves more times than I care to mention so the Landlord is quite happy that we're bringing some people in who are not only having a good time but also eating & drinking.
If anyone has any questions or similar I will be lurking about and am happy to answer them.
(P.S. As a final request, if you are thinking of coming along, go to our Facebook Event page and say so. It always helps with the pub and our own self esteem when we can get a rough idea of numbers ahead of time...)
