Not my day. Went to play Rock Band, and first spent about 10 minutes trying to find a pair of batteries that were charged up, and then once I'd finally got the controller working, the game has a 12.3GB update :fp: fml

Turned it on again today for a 9gig update :dread: :fp:

strawberry floating hell, Harmonix. Would hate to have a bad internet connection with all this nonsense.

They're also one of those developers that wastes the "ready to start" feature. Got two gig left to download, start the game, and all it tells me is "title is still installing - Please check back later" :slol:

Downloaded the second one but haven’t got time to play now. Hopefully it fixes the bugs they introduced with the last update. There were some real obvious ones there that should have been picked up with very basic testing

Has anyone had any trouble with instruments thinking buttons are being pressed when they aren't? A few days ago my drumkit started randomly playing the yellow pad. Now it's doing it to the point where I can't even navigate the menus :dread: :fp: Changed the batteries, which (I thought) fixed it, but a song later it started doing it again...

Nothing is ever easy with me and Rock Band

I thought that the last 2 weeks too but I put it down to me being gooseberry fool especially after not playing for a few weeks.

Are you using the stock kit or still your ions?

No, though I've noticed that I'm getting a lot of 99% scores now for perfect vocals runs, which is immensely frustrating as I thought they'd ironed that out after RB3.

Weird. I've only hit one 100% since the last update and that tracked okay. There seems to be a metric fuckton of issues in the last update, I can't honestly believe it was tested by anyone through development and certification

Just emailed Harmonix support about the drumkit issue, because it's genuinely making the game unplayable now :slol: The controller seems to have a mind of it's own. It constantly opens the activity feed on the main menu, keeps opening and minimisming the leaderboards when I'm trying to put a setlist together, and then if I actually manage to get into a song, I can't keep a combo going because it's constantly tck-tck-tck-tck-tcktcktcktcktck....... tck tck tk.............tck tcktcktktcktcktck-ing the yellow cymbal.

Only issue I had with the original Rock Band drumkit was snapping the pedal :dread: And yet this Madcatz one seems to have died already :(

So yeah, I'm going to be useless for the next few weeks on Rivals. Would love to get the Ions out, but I haven't got room in the game room at the moment :fp: fml

Harmonix' response? "We don't make the hardware not our problem lol". Shambolic :slol: Not surprised, though. They're utterly, utterly useless with support. The twitter account never even replies to me any more :shifty:

Don't you deal with hardware for a living?

Have you got a voltmeter? Maybe check if there's any shorts on your cymbal? Might be an intermittent earth on the lead causing it to open/close?

Have you tried plugging it in to a different cymbal socket on the drum head? Does the issue follow the cymbal? or remain on yellow? Does the same thing happen if there is no cymbal plugged in at all?

Was going to try the official lines before ripping it apart :shifty: That's pretty much my plan for when I'm back from my holiday, though.

I'm sure it'll be repairable. All of the Rock Band instrument inputs are ultimately fancy buttons. I would say it's more likely to be a cable as it's working randomly.

Is it a RB4 kit with RB2/RB3 cymbals?

I mean to be fair to them I wouldn't expect hardware support for something that was made by a third party - they wouldn't have the expertise to deal with it if it wasn't made in-house.

Yeah, I get that they aren't exactly clued up on how to fix it, but they don't even bother to say "contact these guys at X" or anything, just "lol not us bbs. QUERY CLOSED". Not even a slight attempt to be nice or helpful.

Also, it was a support request put in through the "there's a problem with my hardware" section of their website, so if all of their hardware responses are "not our problem lol" they could just forward any requests about hardware to a page with contact details for their various suppliers.

Even if it's made by a third party it's an official licensed Rock Band 4 controller so you'd think they'd be a little more willing to point me in the right direction.

On a different note, I managed to pick up my 850th full combo on vocals today - hoping to get to 1,000 by the end of the year if I can spare the funds. :D

Hopefully my last post in the Frank drum kit saga - Do they even actually make band bundles any more? Amazon is totally sold out, just googling gives me no first-hand kits. Surely if they're playing the long game with the franchise (like "hey keep playing because rivals"), they *must* still be producing instrument sets? Or are more and more players going to die off because none of these new generation instruments are as good as the RB3/Beatles versions and they don't actually make any?

At least it'll save me money on DLC for the next few months.

EDIT: Just tried to take it apart and the circuitboard inside doesn't really look like there's anything wrong with it. Bit of a mucky build up but nothing that looks like it should be breaking. From playing about with the buttons on the game I think it's the actual button that's broken rather than the pad. Guess I can test that now by just unplugging the yellow pad... Although I tried to unplug the green earlier and almost pulled the entire connector housing off the board. Doesn't look like it's even soldered in properly :dread:

EDIT 2: ........I don't think it's twatting out now... Have I fixed it by taking it apart and putting it back together? Will risk a song and see how it goes.

That's the worst when I get that at work. Generally it is a cable if that happens as they're easy to move around when taking things apart and putting them back together. Did it hold up and get you through some songs?

Regarding new controllers, as far as I know they stopped manufacturing them about a year ago. All that can be done now is buying used controllers, or repairing what we have ourselves. There was a website once upon a time you could buy switches from so I'll try and hunt that down. I bought a replacement strum bar for a guitar controller back in the RB2 days.

Yeah, I played a fair bit without any hassle (I think about 11 songs?) Will have another smash later and hopefully see more of the same! Finger's crossed it stays decent (I wasn't sure if it was maybe the hot weather triggering something, like the original PS4s if-it-gets-too-hot-the-rubber-foot-expands-and-presses-the-eject-disc-button issues, but I guess there's no real way of knowing that for sure..)

Let me know if you manage to find the site that sells the switches, that'd be a big help in case it does cock up again

Trying to get promoted this week is insane :dread:

Even with a crazy team score we are still 16th in the world :fp: and our scores are bringing us down to mid table

I want to say it was called "Docs Mods" but the website doesn't seem to be around now :( although it is top google result so maybe it's a recent technical issue
