8-)

The Spotlight songs just use the 1 best score per instrument set by any of us, don't they? Toying with Clint Eastwood but not sure the score will even matter.

Yes it just takes the best score set by the team for each part over the week.

It's a pretty good song to own though if you don't already have it... I found vocals impossible though as someone who enjoys breathing, something you don't get much chance to do if you're singing the solo chart. I might try drums over the weekend as I think that's probably the best part, bass and "guitar" are pretty basic and very easy.

And here are the other two Gorrilaz tracks if you're on the fence of picking up the pack of 3 songs for the slight discount

Feel Good Inc. is another that's good on harmonies/vocals

DLC: LEGITIMATE FRONT! Available NOW!
Image

From time to time, Harmonix appeals to the Rock Band audience to help us support a worthy cause. This week, we’d like to highlight an amazing organization called Defy Ventures. Defy provides entrepreneurship, employment and character development training to currently and formerly incarcerated men, women and youth, giving them the tools they need to remake their lives. Defy’s work is both desperately needed and highly effective: The US has the highest incarceration rate in the world, and the 5-year rate of recidivism (re-incarceration) from state prisons is over 75%. Defy Ventures graduates, by contrast, have a recidivism rate of just 3.2%. This is astounding.

For a closer look, I encourage you to read this blog post by famed venture capitalist (and Harmonix investor) Brad Feld of Foundry Group, an account of the day he spent visiting California State Prison with the Defy team. It’s powerful stuff.

To help support Defy’s life-changing work, Harmonix has teamed up with the band Legitimate Front, founded by two of Brad’s partners at Foundry Group, Ryan McIntyre and Jason Mendelson. We’re releasing the band’s song, “She”, as Rock Band DLC this week for a price of just $0.99. All of the proceeds from sales of this track (100% of both Harmonix’s and the band’s shares) will be donated to Defy Ventures.

Please consider picking up this track. It’s just a buck, it has wailing guitar solos and funky basslines, and you will be helping an organization that is doing noble and beautiful work!

Yours in rock,
Alex

A funk song, “She” is fun for everyone, with otherwise unconventional playing styles front-and-center. The guitar has an interesting rhythmic pattern, keeping you on your toes throughout. Solos will put your fret movement to the test while the rest of the song checks your strumming ability. Bass is arguably the highlight of the song, being a standout instrument in the funk genre. It’s even rated as the hardest part, with HOPO runs along the full neck throughout!

  • "She" can be purchased individually for £0.79

DLC 20/07/2017
A new week means new tracks come to Rock Band 4 this week, so add to your library with songs from The Black Keys and Wilson Phillips and nail bluesy guitar lines or belt out some great harmonies.

Featured on the Rock Band VR soundtrack, “Gold On The Ceiling” is coming to Rock Band 4 DLC. The second single off El Camino, it was critically well-received and topped the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. It still remains one of The Black Keys’ most notable hits in a career filled with MANY successful singles. The harmonies in the song are made up of a small backing choir, a rare appearance in the Rock Band catalog. The drums AND guitar both have swung patterns, with the guitar also having some quick licks scattered through the song, keeping things fresh. For a challenge, try singing it while playing guitar like Dan Auerbach does!

“Hold On” was the debut single by Wilson Phillips. Their self-titled debut quickly became the highest selling album by an all-female group at the time, with over ten million copies sold to date. “Hold On” reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was ultimately crowned the 1990 Billboard top song of the year. Drums do a galloping disco beat, which adds an intriguing spin to the pattern. The bass has HOPOs strewn through the song, great to coordinate with singing. Of course, harmonies are the highlight of the song. They’ve been meticulously crafted to make each line accurately tied to a member, which becomes fun as they take turns sprinkling in ‘one-liners’. Line 1 is Chynna Phillips while Lines 2 and 3 are Wendy Wilson and Carnie Wilson. Enjoy this one.

Songs can be purchased individually for £1.59 each.

  • The Black Keys - "Gold On The Ceiling"
  • Wilson Phillips - "Hold On"

All 3 for me this week. It's been quite a good month.

Hopefully I can add xp as usual. Very little use on the spotlight songs, probably never will be.

All it takes is for one week where a Spotlight song is a DLC track you have and you could end up being the teams secret weapon that week!

I'm not sure how the songs stack this week. I know The Protomen as part of RB4 so everyone has access to that, Legitimate Front is that Charity single that was released for 80p this week and I'm pretty sure Scandal is another RB4 track

Yeah two RB4 tracks and the charity download. I should be able to put down a couple of outstanding scores for Warrior and Light Up the Night - which is a strawberry floating outstanding song by an outstanding band. Parkreiner agrees with me on this, look:

Christ man, you must have almost played every eligible song in your library tonight! Nice one!

I played through a few songs I haven't played since like the RB2 era. Brings back memories. Eye of the Tiger  so close to 100% that song but I always miss a few here and there

Play Shout by Tears for Fears too. I think that was RB3 DLC. Guitar chart is really good and how they should be done. It has a big doing nothing section early on but it doesn't suffer from random keys or other things mapped out to the guitar. Frank you need to get this one!!

And the charity single is quite fun to play on guitar but pretty difficult. I might have to submit a score on hard if I can't improve my expert run.

Alphabetically I'm up to the first spotlight tune. Will probably finish the set off tomorrow, I've learned to divide it up.
This week eliglble tunes made me download Stevie Wonder's 'Higher Ground'...nice!

That's probably the best way to do it, so you know you're maximising you time/xp ratio and don't replay songs when others that haven't been played that week exist.

I usually sort by stars and try and increase my star score on songs I've done terrible on previously (usually when I've had a drunk party and someone else has been playing on my profile :shifty: )
