WEEK OF 1/17 - SOLID '70S PACK 01!
It’s a blast from the past, in more ways than one, as a pack of ‘70s hits reaches Rock Band 4, including some hits from previous Rock Band discs!

First is Blue Öyster Cult, with their hit, “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper”. The band’s highest charting song, it is frequently placed on ‘Greatest Song of All Time’ lists. Coming to DLC from the original Rock Band disc, it’s just as you remember. Guitar has an iconic line throughout, and a solo that starts spacey and gets intense real quick. Back during Rock Band, the drums were a gatekeeper in the Career Mode, building up as the song goes on to a very tough ending. The solo vocals chart the cowbell, as our song library has been down with a fever lately.

Following that is Kansas’ “Carry On Wayward Son”. This track comes from Rock Band 2, back in 2008! The song itself was Kansas’ first Top 40 hit, and endures to this day, having sold millions of digital copies to date. Incredibly difficult back in the day, the vocal chart hasn’t been made any easier with the new inclusion of harmonies. The bass brings a strong showing, having some quick HOPO runs in the main riff. The guitar features several solos, all of them enough to break a combo.

We finish strong with Toto’s “Hold the Line”, a new addition to the franchise. One of the best singalongs of the ‘70s, it joins “Africa” and “Rosanna” to make a trilogy of Toto hits in Rock Band 4. Over the summer, we asked fans if they were on #TeamAfrica or #TeamHoldTheLine before releasing either, and a strong showing from each side has now led to BOTH songs appearing in Rock Band 4! Reaching #5 on the Hot 100 chart, it was just the beginning of Toto’s successful career. It’s got everything you want in a Rock Band track; a ridiculously fun guitar solo, strong drums with some tough kicks, and a bunch of great vocal runs. It’s the full package.

The “Solid ‘70s Pack 01” will be available for $5.49. Each track can be purchased individually for $1.99 each.
  • Blue Öyster Cult - "(Don’t Fear) The Reaper" (From the expired Rock Band tracklist)
  • Kansas - "Carry On Wayward Son" (From the expired Rock Band 2 tracklist)
  • Toto - "Hold the Line"

THE INS AND OUTS OF ONLINE QUICKPLAY – RIVALS’ FIRST MAJOR UPDATE
Image

Last month, we gave you an overview of what Online Quickplay was bringing to the table in Rock Band Rivals. Online band play, Green Rooms, four song setlists, rockin’ player emotes, and a new filter to show only songs that your group shares. Good stuff, right? Earlier this week, we also revealed that the update will launch with another free song for all Rivals players, which we can’t wait for everyone to start playing online together.

Today, I wanted to take some time to share what some of our developers have to say about the feature, including why it’s exciting to work on, what makes it great, as well as some of the challenges in bringing this feature back into the latest installation of Rock Band.

Before you go back to your lives counting down the days until January 25th, let’s take a walk through the nitty gritty details of getting into a multiplayer match:

Image

This screenshot was the header of our last blog post about Online Quickplay, but you might have missed the new counter in the upper right that shows how many of your friends are playing Rock Band 4. This makes it easy from the main menu to decide if you want to hop into Online Quickplay or you’d rather grind on some Rivals XP until more of your friends pop online.

Image

Once you’re in Online Quickplay, you can see any invitations you’ve recently received, in addition to being able to start your own game session. Other invitations to you will drop you into someone else’s Green Room (the room where the band gets ready before selecting a setlist to play), and starting your own game session will put you in charge of a Green Room of your own where you’ll invite others to join you.

Image

If you’re starting your own session, it’s your job to organize your band! From the Green Room, you can hit the button to send invites, where you’ll see a list of all your friends and crew members, along with whether they’re playing Rock Band 4 or not, whether they’re a friend or crew member, what their skill level on their most played instrument is, and how many songs you have in common.

We wanted to make it easier than before to play with your friends, and we prioritized showing how many songs you have in common, along with what instruments they prefer playing, and how good they are at those instruments. On top of this, since Rivals Mode is such a big focus of the Rock Band Rivals expansion, we’re also pulling in all your Rivals crew members, whether you’re also console friends or not. It’s been great to see all the new friendships that have been forged and made stronger because of banding together with crew members, and we’re excited to see you all have fun, even if you don’t live close to each other.

Once people accept their invites, they’ll be in your green room, and you’ll be ready to continue to the music library, which we already covered in the previous blog post. Please note that one instrument per console can be playing online at a time. Harmonies count as a single instrument, so vocalist duos and trios are welcome to join a band as a group!

At this point we’re less than two weeks away from the Online Quickplay update hitting your consoles, complete with the free song “S.O.M.P.,” by forgotten hair metal band Skratch’N Snyf. If you haven’t picked up Rivals yet, there’s never been a better time than now to join the fun! We’ll be organizing some play sessions starting on January 25th for everyone to play with developers from Harmonix, so keep an eye out for more info on that soon.

See you online soon!

Hopefully that bold bit doesn't affect anyone here! I think there's only be one time where I've tried playing online with more than just me on the console, I played 99% with friends locally and when I did go online it was just me. I can see why they did it probably, but hopefully they can patch in more than one player in the future if it's that requested.

That songs in common thing is going to be so useful

Had to submit a support request to Harmonix because their twitter just ignores me when I ask about the legacy adapter :fp: I shouldn't be surprised considering the cock-up they made with the RB3 Pro Guitars in the UK, should I? Absolutely mind-blowing that in 2017 there are still companies that useless when it comes to making global products.

Had a bit of a response back from Harmonix, and it sounds like they're trying to get PDP to do another run of Legacy Adapters, and if not then they'll find another supplier...

Not holding my breath, but we'll see

Fingers crossed for you!

Madcatz and PDP both didn't want to make this thing I don't think  Madcatz said it would be a financial loss and when PDP makes it they don't make enough and sell out in the first week of launching it :fp:

My score for More Than A Feeling just won't upload. :(

Heaty's put up a gold stars score so it's no big deal but I got a PB and really wanted to show it off.

There's a phrase at the start of the second verse that goes lower than you think it does as well. It's a great song to sing though.

Is there anywhere online stocking the Rivals guitar bundle? I've not had any luck finding it in Games around the country when I drop in. I was going to get the DLC on its own but if I can get another plastic guitar for £11 more it's a bit of a no brainer?

I managed to get one from Game in Solihull yesterday while I was visiting. There were two more in there, too. Probably doesn't help unless you're local to Solihull though.

Not inherently unhelpful - there's a chance I'll be in or around Solihull for work, though unlikely. Good to know it's still out there at least.

How do you see how many songs you've played? I was looking for that option everywhere. It's on the app, isn't it? :x

It's a bit awkward. I think if you go to the Rivals menu in game, then select this week's challenge you can press the blue button to get a leaderboard of who's played the most songs/got the most XP

Cool cheers, I was hoping I'd done ten songs for the achievement but couldn't find where to look. I'll have a look tomorrow. :)
