Rival's Challenge - Season 2: Week 6

Spotlights:
  • Blue Oyster Cult: Burnin' for You (this weeks DLC, also free for owners of the "Season 2 Spotlight Pass")
  • Boston: Rock & Roll Band (DLC, March 25th 2008. Single also included in the "Boston Pack" pack)
  • Brad Paisley Feat. Keith Urban: Start a Band (Rock Band 4 disc song)

Play weekly themed songs in multiplayer (online or locally) to earn an XP bonus.

DLC 28/09/2017: Two Great Tastes
September is almost over, but we’ve got two new songs this week that will resurrect those summer jam vibes.

Blue Öyster Cult's famous hit "Burnin' For You" is the epitome of an ‘80s rock song; dynamic, distorted guitar riffs, a pulsing bass line, smooth harmonies, and energetic drums. Off of Fire of Unknown Origin, the song was an instant sensation upon its release in 1981; reaching #1 on the Billboard Top Tracks as well as spending several weeks in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. Drums kick in the song and see some heavy fill action at the end of the intro; there’s movement between rock beats and fills from verse to chorus. Buck Dharma’s vocals are pretty relaxed, so grab a friend for some harmonies. The bassline chugs under the whole song without pause, and the guitar will have you moving between lead riffs, syncopated chord strums, and a guitar solo that shreds.

A future pop classic, "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" appears on Shawn Mendes' sophomore album Illuminate. It has spent the past twenty weeks in the top ten across Billboard charts including the Hot 100, as well as reaching the top of charts globally. The song currently stands at #1 on the Billboard Adult Pop Songs chart. A true summer jam, Mendes’ vocal line moves quickly through the song in eighth note runs. Percussive guitar strums create a rhythm that pops against the drums and handclaps. The bass and drums groove all the way through, with tough sticking in the choruses.

Songs can be purchased individually for £1.59 each. The Rock Band Rivals Season 2 Spotlight Pass can be purchased for £10.79.

  • Blue Öyster Cult - "Burnin' For You" (Part of the Rock Band Rivals Season 2 Spotlight Pass)
  • Shawn Mendes - "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back"

I'll likely be on too. Local play also counts so if you find yourself playing solo, you might get more XP if you turn a regular controller on and log in as an xbox guest with no fail mode on, set it to vocals and leave the controller down in the corner while you play :shifty:

There's only this week and another two weeks after to get in to the top league

You talk like it’s quite the task, Bido. Maybe you need a timeout from the forum to put the hours in.
3 months?

A good start!

18th for XP
43rd for spotlight scoring

Looking like roughly the top 20 teams of the 191 in our league make it through to the top flight this week... so getting promoted is going to be a tall order, especially as we are handicapped by our time zone :(

Welcome to the bigly.

We have this week and next realistically. The final week is impossible (even though more teams get promoted) based on our last few attempts.

I should have a few hours tomorrow to put some time in - I've put in our vocal scores though there is a little room for improvement(about 4000 points over the three songs).

Rival's Challenge - Season 2: Week 7

Spotlights:
  • Asia - Heat of the Moment (this weeks DLC, also free for owners of the "Season 2 Spotlight Pass")
  • Motörhead - Ace of Spades (DLC, also available for free for owners of "Rock Band 2 Disc Export")
  • Scorpions - No One Like You (Rock Band 4 disc song)

DLC 05/10/2017 & 12/10/2017: 1982 IS CALLING AND THE END OF SEASON 2
Start October off right with these two '80s hits from Asia and Survivor!

Asia – the prog rock super group consisting of members of Yes and King Crimson – released their debut single “Heat of the Moment” in 1982. An instant hit, the song spent 6 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and was one of the biggest singles of the year. But thanks to its frequent use in TV & films, the song's popularity didn’t end there, and it's still one of the top tracks played on classic rock radio. The song opens with the epic main guitar phrase of distorted power chords. When the vocals kick in, the guitar creates a syncopated feel against the vocal melody and drum beat. Everything builds up to the release of the chorus, where the tempo picks up and the harmonies kick in. Each part will keep you moving.

Another chart-topper from 1982 is “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor, a song that is no stranger to Rock Band, having previously been featured on the Rock Band 2 disc. The song has been featured in dozens of films, TV shows, sporting events, and has topped countless charts worldwide. Its impact on pop culture is timeless and iconic. All parts get their knockout moment in this song. Keep your eye on the end of the choruses, there is a collective run of eighth and sixteenth notes that will be tough. Playing this song will pump you up for anything!

Songs can be purchased individually for £1.59 each. The Rock Band Rivals Season 2 Spotlight Pass can be purchased for £10.79.

  • Asia - "Heat of the Moment" (Part of the Rock Band Rivals Season 2 Spotlight Pass)
  • Survivor - "Eye of the Tiger" (Rewind - Part of the Rock Band 2 Disc Export)

And to wrap up Season 2...

Alice in Chains Pack 03
  • "Down In A Hole"
  • "Man in the Box" (Rewind - Part of the Rock Band 2 Disc Export)
  • "Them Bones"

THEM BONES! THEM strawberry floating BONES! Down In A Hole is a corker of a song, too.

If they'd just release Nutshell I'd have all my favourite AIC songs in the game.
